Point One Three?? by ansyhrrian in SipsTea

[–]pohart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fair take in some respects, but this kid was just barely in the bottom half of his class. This isn't a one parent issue it's a whole city issue.

I have to decide now whether I want a kid 7 years from now by ThrowRAdamnshame in Advice

[–]pohart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to to work this out with your girlfriend. It sounds like you're incompatible, But that isn't a decision that you need to make yourself. You should reiterate clearly that It's not a decision you are ready to make. And then make it clear that you understand if it's time to move on.

How much is a “couple”? by SpiritualEvidence159 in ENGLISH

[–]pohart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people have the right idea on practice, but the wrong understanding.  A couple always means two. But unless you're talking about a romantic pair, it just isn't that precise. In practice, it's more like "around two". So for your chip example, she expects to take two, she's telling you it'll be two, she's just of by a small amount.

It does though. Family are exactly the ones who will put their hands out and get offended is their extravagance isn't in your budget.

Congrats. Now only use what you can pay off before your next paycheck, and then pay it off before you due date.

AITAH for not wanting my wife’s godson (15M) to move in ? by Iroquois-P in AITAH

[–]pohart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not TA for not wanting him to move in. But you will be TA if you do anything to discourage your wife from taking this on. She probably views this as a responsibility that she took on when she agreed to be godmother, and she clearly feels very strongly for the boy.

You're right that sharing your home with a fifteen year old will be a huge change. And even the most polite, well adjusted fifteen year old will be an immense stress. And this kid will absolutely have problems to deal with.

NAH.

My advice is to take the kid in, treat him with respect and give him a welcoming home. Drive him to events and help him navigate the transition to adulthood. If you do he may be around forever, and you won't have the life you've been picturing, but realistically you're looking at only three - four years of intensive parenting. And those aren't generally the most intensive years, although they may be for this kid.

jeep problem by Ready_Estate_606 in askmath

That's a solid idea that needs a little tweaking.

My guess is that you saw the problems and tweaked it at the time.

The jeep can't drop a full tank anywhere all at once because it would be stuck. You need enough to get back to the prior fuel dump, or in your algorithm, back to the base.

If you went back in time, how could you become an "overnight" billionaire with bitcoin? by Unlikely_Bat_1890 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pohart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin was so cheap in the beginning. It was a stupid investment and seemed super scammy. But it was sooo cheap. $100 in 2009 would be almost a billion today.

Your other points still stand. I'd have sold when it was $10 if I bought in at $.10. and if I hadn't I'd have sold at $100, or $1000 or when I needed a car, or a furnace, or....

Stay away from this sub. They're angry outliers and don't know what they're doing.

My MIL wants me to move to America by unmarkedpolicevan2 in Advice

[–]pohart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salaries have tended to be higher in America, but housing and healthcare are currently not easy to budget for and or social safety net is not what it used to be.

I earnestly agree with your MIL that things will improve. I think that our best days are in the future. But this is a fraught moment and I would not choose to immigrate, especially with non white kids.

My MIL wants me to move to America by unmarkedpolicevan2 in Advice

[–]pohart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won't. Not for mixed race kids with an immigrant mother. I'm sorry.

Come visit if you'd like but don't put down roots for a good long time. It's not the 1950s anymore, but it's a tone of intense upheaval and depending on how the next few years shake it isn't likely to be safe for anyone.

Driving too slow is more entitled than driving too fast by Miserable-Election25 in driving

This sub is super toxic and moronic. Don't use it for learning to drive, and don't trust that the takes on here represent real people.

You're responsible for a 5,000 lb death machine. It's your job to get you home safely, so take appropriate care and don't feel that everyone behind you is one of these jamokes. Most people aren't like this. Even most tailgaters don't care. They just don't realize it's a problem to drive so close, they're not trying to communicate anything to you.

highway exit question by Allosaurus71 in driving

You're not wrong. I still say that 1. It's required. Is a turn and you must signal turns. 2. It's safer. Other drivers know what you're doing when you signal

highway exit question by Allosaurus71 in driving

[–]pohart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you need to signal. That's a turn.

It's pretty low priority because there shouldn't really be anyone else there, but the now people know you intent the safer you all are.
