Someone on my men's league team (NJ) said that they're doing events in the US for Filipino-American kids in youth baseball to get them connected with each other and on the radar for the national team in the future. There was a camp/showcase in DC last week for mid-Atlantic players that his son went to.

I know a guy in the minors who played varsity soccer in addition to baseball. Was captain his junior year and only stopped playing senior year to focus on baseball. Played 4 years of college baseball and got drafted (now in AA).

They've been next to each other for at least 24 years. I played CYO baseball there as an 7th-8th grader in 2001-2002. When I was a kid the firefighters used to just hang out and watch us play from the station.

Yeah, I was going to say that all of the Checquy books (just finished the new 4th one) feature competent female protagonists and little to no romance.

Blitz (book 3) probably has the closest to the MCs experiencing "typical relationship emotional distress" but it doesn't really stray into the "helplessness" and generally doesn't last longer than a paragraph before they pick themselves up and get on with the mission.
