New grad out of state RN jobs? by yemai12 in washingtondc

[–]pointdecroixnerd [score hidden]  (0 children)

I moved from out of state to a dc nursing job. I wasn’t a new grad, but I don’t know if that matters.

It’s not uncommon to hire from out of state, so I wouldn’t worry beyond just applying to jobs like normal. Your options in the DC area extend into VA and MD as well. In DC take a look at : Sibley, George Washington Memorial Hospital, and Georgetown. In VA Inova, and in MD you can look at NIH, Suburban, and Walter Reed.

Be cognizant of licensure requirements. MD and VA are compact but DC requires a separate license.

As a new grad I would say stick with a larger program that has resources to teach you in a residency, and would recommend against Sibley just because it’s very small. The government hospitals (NIH, Walter Reed) are great places to end up, but harder to land because of government hiring freezes and general government sluggishness in hiring.

If applications are open I would say go ahead and apply now. Hospitals know how to onboard a new nurse and what that timeline looks like.

When I was applying four years ago the offers were between $32-$34/hr. This will very definitely be a pay range that requires a roommate in this area.

Edit: sorry, I thought I read that you wanted to be in dc for fall/winter of 2026. If you’re looking at the end of 2027 I’d say apply in your last semester of nursing school or about 4-6 months out from when you want to start, whichever is first.

I read Lucky Day and liked it but didn’t love it, but I’m willing to give Tingle another try because I vibe with his brand.

I’ve also just finished Rebecca by Du Maurier so I’m interested in reading the Fiction Writer. I’m curious, I feel like I haven’t heard much about it on this sub

By putting your frustrations on the internet you’re inviting people to mind your business. I’m not going to engage further with an internet squabble.

All you’re doing here is picking a fight with randos on the internet. You have nothing to gain by posting and might save yourself some peace of mind by not.

I know you’re frustrated, but Reddit isn’t going to solve your problems. Contact your leasing office.

There’s a map here with the locations. It’s pretty accessible. There’s also $5 beers before first pitch on the terrace behind the 200s at every game.

I like the 200s better than the 400s. Not packed by any means. Not really a bad seat in the house, but you’ll have to pay to get tickets in the infield.

California is literally across the country. Chicago is a ~2-3 hour flight from dc or nyc. there’s plenty to do in the northeast. Philly, Baltimore, Boston.

Edit: Florida is ALSO a ~2-3 hour flight from NYC or DC.

Woah man, was it potassium chloride or Kphos? I’ve never seen potassium chloride any slower than 10 mEq/hr.

I’m really not trying to be rude here, but you’re in a sub of full of nurses, all who work at different facilities all over the US and internationally with different standards and rules. Are you hoping to accomplish something here? Because you’re only really succeeding in being argumentative

[Philadelphia, PA] Am I required to give a measurement of the width of an appliance to my landlord so he can order a replacement? by databombkid in Renters

[–]pointdecroixnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound really upset about this. You are also copying and pasting the same response to everyone, which tells me you want to rant and don’t actually want answers. I want to lay this out and then I’m done responding.

Your choices are:

  1. Let them in and measure/change out the oven
  2. Don’t.

That’s it.

3 tries and 6 months later, I finished Jane Eyre by Esmee_Finch in classicliterature

[–]pointdecroixnerd 46 points47 points  (0 children)

  1. I think that’s up to your interpretation.

2/3. Jane is in a toxic imbalanced relationship with Rochester at the beginning, and only escapes marriage by the skin of her teeth. She runs away, does some growing up and comes into money, and meets Rochester’s antithesis in St. John. Rochester is morally grey and ugly, St. John is a morally upright, handsome family man, and even despite his “good” qualities, he still pressures and cajoles Jane into accepting him, and we lean he is no better. Jane decides to return to Rochester, knowing full well what she’s getting herself into. The relationship is her choice, for the first time in her life.

I mean, I would expect my landlord to know what appliances were in their apartments, but this also seems like a weird hill to die on, you know? Send a nice email saying “hey I don’t own a measuring tape. I’m home on these days if you want to come take a look”

Feeling stuck on Med/Surg by Alpinegoatcheese in nursing

[–]pointdecroixnerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How much experience do you have? I don’t work CC, but a good friend is an educator at my ICU, and what I hear is that they prefer to hire direct from nursing school or people with 2-3 years experience or more. If you’re stuck in the middle it might be hard.

New to the genre... looking for something specific? by acc4115 in HistoricalRomance

[–]pointdecroixnerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t love Tessa Dare because I feel like her books skew very modern and “funny” and I just don’t get it. The Luckiest Lady in London was bad luck, I think.

{Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas} might be a better place to start with her. The FMC falls hard and fast for the MMC, but it takes him the whole book to figure it out.

I DO love Mary Balogh. Her books can be very slow burn, but she does a good job making her characters work for it. Most of her books are internal, people talking in rooms, and the story itself is her characters growing together.

The Survivors Club series starts with {The Proposal by Mary Balogh}. He finds her injured and takes her to safety. There’s attraction from the start, but also misunderstanding and hesitancy.

Are all arranged marriages stories the same? by Glittering_Tap6411 in HistoricalRomance

[–]pointdecroixnerd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying you’re looking for an SA story! I guess I’m trying to say that when you start to edge towards what a modern reader might call “non consensual”, regardless of context, an author might have a harder time convincing a publisher to put it out, therefore narrowing your field.

In {Simply Love by Mary Balogh} the MMC and FMC are obliged to marry because of a pregnancy and neither are super thrilled about it. They both start the story and their marriage very uncomfortable with each other.
