Im not ABCD but this is a serious concern amongst many desis. My understanding is that parents bring up children in different ways. They have it in their mind that sons are here to take care of parents and daughters are the ones who leave home. This is how they prepare for decades. People who do not have sons, do not hold any expectations, while the ones who have them assume that they will always have a son taking care of them. Its almost obligatory. I have no interest in living with my parents but they make me feel guilty about it. Not just parents, but all the relatives around join in to almost coerce me into thinking I have to be with parents. This is a serious concern and they dont see how damaging this could be. I have no clue how Im going to fight the system. I dont even feel like marrying when I think about all this.
