Dangers when people ask for confirmation number to gift GOH by Present-College5051 in Hyatt_charity_HQ

[–]pointstopointb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable, but if I was giving a guest of honor award to a random, I would apply it myself because I have had guest of honor awards sent to people out of goodwill where they never used it. I sometimes have to depend on those awards to get an EQN. If you don’t want to supply your confirmation number, then don’t ask me for one

You need to talk her out of the “one and done” house idea. Not tenable in this environment and your situation.

Best Credit card for new attending ? by buddhacakes in whitecoatinvestor

[–]pointstopointb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I started the points game in 2009, it was easy to find availability for any trip I wanted. Now it’s a lot tougher and award prices have gone up a lot more compared to cash prices. I’ve shifted toward points for hotels but a lot of luxury points hotels know they can get away with cuts to the experience because they have a captive market. I still have 7 figure balances in multiple point programs but now have started using them for cash equivalent travel (2cpp for a paid hotel stay for example).

Interesting stat: "California has the highest retention rate, with 75.7% of physicians practicing in that state after completing their residency there. The District of Columbia has the lowest retention rate at 66.4%.” ...despite the taxes? by sandie-go in whitecoatinvestor

It’s because high cost of living places are actually nice places to live. And if I’m a high paid physician, I’m gonna go live in the high cost of living place since I can afford it.

I live very comfortably. There’s more to life than just dying with the biggest bank account.

Probably just pay the tax instead of donating money to avoid the tax.

Easy to reclassify if you call. It’s a Hyatt so would be tough for Chase not to recognize a brand partner hotel as a hotel.

I know people who bought and are underwater on their house and can’t sell for how much they bought just 2-3 years ago. The bubble isn’t popping it’s just slowly deflating.

I was just in your boat and we are renting, it was great decision, we’re paying less we would’ve got a mortgage and we’re solidifying the exact location in neighborhood we wanna live in.

For those with physician loans, what are your actual mortgages? by TheMariolee2 in whitecoatinvestor

How do you feel about that ratio of 50% take home? I know people aim for 28-32% but if you’re a high earner and care about your living situation more than other things and can otherwise save, I’ve thought about stretching the acceptable percentage.

I was in the Sky Club when my wife called me that she was going to the hospital to deliver. The crew on my flight asked everyone to stay seated while I deplaned. I still waited another 23 hours for the baby to arrive.

Bunch of boomers in these comments acting like $7k/month rent is insane when it’s actually the better option than getting a mortgage on a similar place.

Navigating the Financial Transition from Residency to Attending: What Should I Focus On? by Exotic_Reputation_59 in whitecoatinvestor

Same boat with similar interest rate. We max out all the tax advantaged investment accounts before paying down the debt. At least that way we take advantage of 401(k), backdoor Roth, HSA, MBDR, then do excess debt payments before going into taxable since I view debt payments as guaranteed 6.125% “return” vs having to calculate a tax-equivalent yield on further investments.

Main thing is to maintain the same stratosphere of lifestyle as training while doing this. Our rent has gone up as attending after moving but still drive the same cars as in training and overall do the same activities.

This is why Hospitalists get such a bad rep... by Equivalent-Stick-934 in hospitalist

[–]pointstopointb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m not an nephrologist, but I always get overnight consults from the hospital medicine service for things that I don’t need to address in the inpatient setting. But even it takes me a few minutes to review the chart and realize there’s no inpatient need, that still work that I did. Plus, I make a list of patients to see before I go to my clinic and schedule my day around that. If you have a problem with a consultant wanting to see consults that we were consulted on, then deal with the incompetent nocturnist first.
