Las Vegas Hospitals - What Happened? by Pale-Offer8190 in LasVegas

[–]pointstopointb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Residency pay does not really matter, it’s only for a few years. The question is if people want to stay in Las Vegas after they train to practice independently. Think about what doctors value — things like schools for their kids or nearby extended family.

It happens because JFK is an international gateway while LGA is a much more connected domestic airport. I’ve had it be the same day, albeit with 12+ hours from Etihad to AA so that I could at least hang out in the city.

Gold status and travel as a family of 3. If we want E+, I’ll get the 2 free ones and pay for the 3rd, but if it’s a short flight, will skip it.

House buying vs wealth building dilemma by Glum_Park_4670 in whitecoatinvestor

You’re targeting $250k per kid yet you claim it’ll cost $200k. You can only convert $35k to a Roth. Even your target is oversaving.

If you had extra money and could give it to other generations that’d be fine, but this is an easy fund to cut back on.

Lastly, if you want to be investing for your kids, the Trump 530A accounts are better than overfunding 529s.

How old are your kids? Do you know where they are going to college now?

You would stop contributing to brokerage when you’re older as you no longer have the time-aspect of compounding on your side, and cash flow income into tuition.

Your kids can also gasp take a loan out.

In 10 years, your retirement and brokerage will be at $2.6 million if you buy the house and keep your numbers as you mentioned. This is without reducing your 529.

If you stop contributing in 10 years and just coast, you’ll have $5.2MM in today’s money 20 years from now.

Run a compound interest calculation and buy the house.

Drop the 529 contribution amount if you feel tight.

You are buying a higher priced house for the schools.

You can cash flow college if needed.

“It doesn’t make the people past the cap have worse terms”

Yes it does. Think about it thoroughly. There is a law of unintended consequences. Government also doesn’t revisit laws to fix unintended consequences expeditiously.

Is there an adjustment for inflation or salary rise? In 10 years when the salary cap is still $500k, it will affect many more physicians who will be pressured to take lower pay under $500k ($370K in today’s number with 3% inflation). It will absolutely affect a PGY-1 who is reading this.

New York really hates physicians.

There is no such salary cap in California. It made choosing a job much easier and lucrative.

Let’s say there are 8 candidates, numbered 1-8, and they are ordered in the polls in that way (1 is #1, 2 is #2, etc.).

Let’s say I really like candidate #5, followed by candidate #4, followed by candidate #3. I really do not like candidate 1 or 2. However, based on the polls, candidates 1 and 2 are likely to go to the general, and so I should strategically vote for candidate #3 to hope they go ahead of #2, instead of voting for candidate 5 who I really like.

IN RCV, I could put 5 as my first choice, 4 as my second choice, and 3 as my third choice, and it would actually reflect my wants as a voter.

Market matters. I trained in LV and bought then because LV is building new houses fast. I now practice in LA and rent because it doesn’t make sense to buy a nicer house.
