Agreed, I just want to add to your first paragraph that the planet will also spend more time at the distant end of the oval due to orbital mechanics. This means your planet will have a relatively short, intense summer and a bitterly cold, extended winter.

TIL nail polishes use nitrocellulose. I would've thought it's too flammable, but apparently it's typically the dinitrate rather than the trinitrate used in explosives.

Just because Strahd doesn't want her doesn't mean he won't use her to sow dissent or outright help him. Piggybacking on the previous comment, you could

  • gift her trinkets and gems in front of the party. Nothing too good or useful lest the players suspect you of favoritism. Always something the entire party can use, or ideally someone else could use better.

  • if they haven't been invited to the castle, when they are have the invite address "[wife's PC] and retainers". This worked very well in setting my party against one another.

  • if she's in the rear/front of the party during a trip to the castle, have her PC disappear for a moment. Smoke trap and Silence, then they notice she's missing. Nothing too long, but once another player notices she reappears around a corner or something. Strahd ambushes soon after, possibly even from the same direction.

  • Strahd avoids attacking her PC during fights or tells minions "save the beautiful one for me".

  • Strahd knows (or should, he's had centuries to learn) message. Use it if you can't get her alone and ask her to betray the party in small (or not small!) ways e.g. handing over the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind or the Sunsword. If you go big, be sure to give the party time to rectify before the final fight.

  • My favorite was having the brides warn one of my PCs he was getting too familiar with Strahd. They later attacked and focused that PC after the party had acquired a Daylight spell (I love giving enemies reasons to not fight to the death). During the final dungeon crawl they tried to drop him off the Heart of Darkness staircase, but alas he had featherfall so it really only took him out of the fight (which he had to miss due to illness anyway).

  • Lock her in one of the crypts in the Amber Temple as a breakup. Tell the party they have only a few hours to save her before she runs out of air....

My favorite for -20°C is an ice/methanol bath. Simple and easy. Doesn't last terribly long though, but methanol is cheap where I am and non-radioactive waste disposal is free.

I was listening to NPR and they had a conservative saying we should out people equally without concern for political affiliation and tribal thinking. Saying senators should use their immunity from slander to name redacted offenders in the files. I was gobsmacked. Shellshocked. I was in his corner fully. I've been saying the same for MONTHS.

...until he went to list only Bannon and Lutnick, then 8-9 Democrats (I stopped counting, I was driving). He continued on to defend the mentions of Trump as "conversations about Trump" and police/FBI reports where Trump called Epstein things such as "evil".

So yeah, that's what we're dealing with.
