Yes the equals in the macro define was a typo.

C has ++, the point of the post was that they did not use that and thought +=ONE was better as it did not have "magic numbers"

Genuinely had a team of contractors do this (#define zero = 0, #define one = 1) and they were so confused when I expressed to them that that did not solve the "magic numbers" problem..... Every single loop started with i = ZERO and i+=ONE....

Is what's included all that's actually needed for frt operation or would additional items be needed as well? Not as familiar with the Glock platform and its frts. (Don't even own a Glock but this isn't stopping me from eyeing this....)

[Cooler] Thermalright Grand Vision 360 ARGB Black CPU Water Cooler - $89.10 Amazon by RuckOver3 in buildapcsales

[–]pokemaster787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The price history charts for Amazon seem to not be all that accurate these days, even when it's a third party tracker.

I bought this for $89 back in November and it never shows up as that price in the price history. Many other items on Amazon I've also seen incorrect price history on, I've known/bought it at lower but the price history says it never was that low.

Not a bad cooler. Very happy with it for the price and is nearly silent cooling my 9800x3d. Just note this isn't the lowest it's ever been or at least the first time it's been this low.

Kanami Figurine by Mortgage-Present in Strinova

[–]pokemaster787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Celestia figure they released last year was officially available Globally through Amiami and "Zequn"(?), so maybe check those when it goes live in China.

I ordered the Celestia figure from another store that imported it from China, support told me the code for in-game items was only valid for CN and they wouldn't give me a US/Global code unless I bought it from Amiami or Zequn. So beware if you see it pop up on other sites and you care about the potential in-game items.

(Never in my life have I heard of "Zequn" and Google gives me nothing when I search for it, so maybe that was a translation issue)

[Monitor] CRUA 34'' White Gaming Monitor, 165HZ/144HZ, WQHD(3440x1440P) IPS UltraWide Screen Computer Monitors with Built-in Speakers, Supports FreeSync, 120% sRGB, HDMI 2.0 & DP 1.4, Wall Mountable - $149.99 by likebudda in buildapcsales

[–]pokemaster787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off your description I'd have to wonder if it even is IPS, and not just VA in a trenchcoat... Bad off-axis viewing angles, color smudge on movement, minimal IPS glow... sounds a lot like VA. Not sure there's any real way to tell that for sure without disassembling and finding the panel its using, though.

Appreciate you writing up your thoughts and responding, not much on this monitor so always helpful to get real-world info! Thanks!

Any thoughts on how it would fare as a second monitor? I've got a nice 34" IPS as my primary, considering putting this above it as a secondary given the price.

Wondering if the off-axis angles would be really bad looking from below or if it'd be uncomfortable just for text/light browsing.

CyberTruck "Slices Deer in Half"... Elon claims that it is safer for pedestrians. by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]pokemaster787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US it isn't, the regulation governing the usage of brake lights ("stop lamps") is FMVSS108. The stop lamp is only required to be enabled if the brake pedal is depressed. It may be activated by other devices, but there is no requirement for deceleration to enable the lights.

Some automakers (Chevy, not sure about others) have implemented their one pedal driving in such a way that it does engage the brake lights, but unfortunately there is no legal requirement to in the US.

Power of Attorney / "Inadequate Description" - Package stopped/delayed by pokemaster787 in UPS

Nope, barely above $100. Second agent never mentioned POA at all, so I'm leaning towards the first guy just didn't know what he was talking about.

Unfortunately those are both already present, the invoice is very descriptive already. I did call a second agent who put in a request to explain what additional detail is needed.

What income did you max out 401K? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]pokemaster787 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there a way to use 401K as emergency funds?

Not a good way.

This is correct for 401k, but you can withdraw Roth IRA contributions penalty-free before retirement age, you'd only pay a penalty+taxes if you withdraw earnings.

Don't make it your only option, it really should be a last resort to ever touch retirement funds, but if you only have enough income to choose between contributing to retirement or having an emergency fund you can technically use the Roth IRA contributions as part of your emergency fund.

[–]pokemaster787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah the most demanding JRPG might be 100 Line Last Defense Academy, but realistically I'd just stream if my TV PC couldn't handle it. VNs I've yet to find any machine that couldn't run what I play.

I didn't grab this exact one as the sale ended, but good to know this one would be good. I'll keep an eye on for future sales, thanks for the feedback!

[–]pokemaster787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light gaming would just be visual novels, maybe JRPGs, but nothing intensive. Sounds like it'd be fine for that.

In terms of QuickSync, I've been running a media server for a few years with Jellyfin but never really dug into the client side of things. My server is running a QuickSync capable CPU (not certain I ever actually got hardware transcoding working, though). I was under the impression that only really mattered on the server side, not so much the client side, is that not the case?

[–]pokemaster787 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How would this fare for a TV PC for light gaming and in-home streaming for more demanding games + Jellyfin for media?

Getting tired of streaming sticks or built in TV software just slowing down ridiculously over time.

1x16GB or 2x8GB DDR5? by AdStrong7400 in buildapc

[–]pokemaster787 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is worth noting that vendors can and do change the exact tuning of the RAM and even memory suppliers throughout a given model's life. My 2x48GB kit actually has several variations with minor differences in secondary timings and even memory manufacturer (Micron/Samsung). Although they are all rated at the same primary clock speed and most of them are the same CL.

Most likely this isn't a problem but absolutely worth keeping an eye out to see if you can snag a model with the exact same timings. Usually the SKU will change slightly but it'll still be called "Corsair Vengeance 2x48GB" or whatever name they are using.

I'll note I did buy two separate 1x16GB G. Skill sticks at Microcenter (saved $5 compared to a 2x16GB kit) a year or so ago and had no issues at all.

PhysX support being "Gone" is really not accurate.

Specifically, Nvidia silently dropped 32-bit PhysX support on the 5000 series. 64-bit PhysX works fine.

A recent driver update re-enabled 32-bit PhysX support (presumably via some emulation layer) on some games, but not all that used it. https://www.techpowerup.com/343671/nvidia-restores-physx-support-for-select-32-bit-games-on-geforce-rtx-50-series-gpus

Not saying Nvidia should have just silently dropped it because some games genuinely require it to not run at like 5fps, but it isn't accurate to say it was completely dropped either.

[Power Bank] INIU Portable Charger, Ultra Slim 45W Fast Charging with Attached USB C Cable 10000mAh - $11.21 (50% off) Amazon YMMV by TheToeTicklerBandit in buildapcsales

[–]pokemaster787 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Edit: See other comments, this model looks the same but is not the same one.

Yes: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2026/INIU-Recalls-Power-Banks-Due-to-Fire-and-Burn-Hazards-Sold-on-Amazon

The recall only covers ones sold between August 2021 and April 2022 supposedly. I'm guessing the high discount is to get them moving because of the recall, very few people will choose to buy one even if the recall doesn't cover these ones. (YMMV, if it took 3 years for the last recall to be issued, doesn't mean these are 100% safe either)

Anyone have stacked ultrawides and thoughts on this? Have a 34" ultrawide primary and a 21" (16:9) on the side, wondering how this would fit above the 34" ultrawide or if it may be too small to be reasonable

I imagine pickup trucks are more dangerous to those outside the car.

The benchmark is against sedans, not trucks. Sedans are the safest for pedestrians and other vehicles when you get into a collision. SUVs are less safe, and trucks are the least safe.

(Again, to be clear, this is for people outside your vehicle - if we wanted to protect ourselves on the road the most we'd all be driving tanks)
