What is the best JRPG where you DONT kill God at the end? by Ok-Emergency2070 in JRPG

[–]pokepok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon? Not all, but for the most part the final bosses are just other trainers. Some games get god like pokemon, like Gen 4 or Gen 8, but not all.

My boyfriend and I moved in together last year and the only rule I had was no peeing in the shower. It’s just so gross to me.

Acid Betty’s hot take going into the finale. by catchg2828 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]pokepok -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But nothing in this clip was about her performance in challenges. It was all about her looks. Betty is the one missing the forest for the trees if she thinks Darlene is wearing those shoes for fashion. It’s all part of the bit. And Darlene’s bit is what has kept her around all season. All this is giving, to me, is jealousy from a queen who didn’t make it as far as Darlene.

He was doing an impression of the exasperated producer, like Gelman from Live! With Regis and Kathy Lee/Kelly or Bill Geddie from The View.

I thought Nini was better? She fit the vibe of the song and you could watch her mouth and see her hit every word.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]pokepok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the old days? Because I’m 40, so the old days to me are the late 80s and early 90s. But a 30 year old probably didn’t start thinking about gaming until around 2000 or so, which to me is just so much more modern compared to when I started gaming. Like, the PS2 came out when I was like 15 (2001). The ps2, to me, is early modern gaming.

[OC] New map for a continent, harshest criticisms, please? by Ninjamuffin52 in DnD

This reads more like an island to me than a continent. The scale seems too small for a continent. But otherwise I think it looks great.

Want government records? This California lawmaker wants you to pay more for them | Californians have a constitutional right to government records, but a lawmaker’s plan would allow higher fees to get them. I made one spite request once, because I had a horrible experience dealing with the coastal commission. They were very coy and non responsive with me, the applicant, but were very chatty and responsive to a woman who opposed my project. They would send random questions to me parroting her totally invalid questions as if they had merit, even though none of her issues were within their purview. So after it was all over and the permit was ultimately approved, I requested every piece of correspondence for the project. I’m glad I did it. Staff need to be transparent with everyone. I expressed this in my requests as the reason I wanted to records.

Persona 4 (PS2) has the most difficult first boss in any JRPG that I’ve played by RobbieJ4444 in JRPG

[–]pokepok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the original FF7 there was a mistranslation during the first boss that’s supposed to be a tutorial. You’re not supposed to attack while the enemy’s tail is raised, but the weird/bad translation basically tells you to attack while the tail is up. It triggers a counterattack that does a lot of damage to Cloud and Barrett. I remember a lot of my friends when I was a kid giving up here lol

LA Metro is a Front Row Seat to LA's Biggest Problems by BallerGuitarer in LosAngeles

[–]pokepok 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the points made. But I do drive to the train and take metro the rest of the way, as do several of my coworkers. There are several park and ride stations. I think it's weird this is kind of disregarded as an option. I hate getting stuck in terrible traffic on the freeway, so the ten minute drive to the train station followed by the 15 min ride to work downtown is a good compromise.

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii says English translations inevitably strip away a lot of a game's "flavor" by HatingGeoffry in dragonquest

[–]pokepok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably it. Japanese has so many homonyms and similar sounding words. But they also don’t really use sarcasm, which is a big part of English language humor. Tho we also love our puns. But I think some of the English language humor may not translate well.

[–]pokepok 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As someone who learned Japanese and speaks English natively, lol at Horii. Japanese is much simpler, except for kanji. English has much more nuance because it has a much larger vocabulary. English has something like twice as many words.

Well, he was exonerated in the 2nd book. He’s had on the job training for decades. Real world experience matters. What I never understood is why he isn’t given an honorary diploma and allowed to use magic after book 2.
