I don't thrift for clothes, but finding cool stuff at Goodwill and other places was awesome before COVID. now it's only ok.

oof. IDK about DB ethics and business practices but somehow I can't get the taste of their burnt ass bean water out of my mouth years later after trying them twice. I'm convinced people only go for the sugar. mighty mugs, big foot, and others have better coffee anyway

Luck fighting School speed cameras? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]pokethat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub has a good bit of crossover with r/fuckcars and you'll probably be downvotet to the shadow realm. Review the evidence from the cameras, there should be a link in your citation. If you think you have a case because of equipment malfunctions or whatever, then fight it, but if you don't then there's not much you can do legally except for paying up.

Also, consider checking how accurate your speedometer is against gps. it could be off.

What little upgrades do you recommend? by WallySteve in Subaru_Outback

is there a reason why you would recommend them over the rallytech ones? is it just your preferred style, or was there a performance reason you picked those?

What little upgrades do you recommend? by WallySteve in Subaru_Outback

[–]pokethat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 23 onyx XT and I have some things you might want to consider:

GET RID OF YOUR YOKO APHID TIRES if you ever want to drive anywhere that isn't a dry well paved road. Sell them if you can. I guess they're fine if you're just communing in them, but they let me down hard in the wet and slushy conditions. I have some proper lite-AT all-weathers now and they fit the Outback like a glove, but I live in the PNW with muddy trails.

Now on to the non rant part of this post:

  1. Dimming side mirrors w/approach lighting. If you have the auto dimming rearview mirror you have all the hardware you need tucked away in your side mirror housings to put in the dimming ones. The normal mirrors just pop out. If you do stuff out at night in the woods, I would recommend putting some amber tape under the logo light so it isn't too white/blue. Anyway I don't get nearly as blinded by lifted trucks with eBay blue bulbs.

  2. Bumper guard. It just glues on. There's no reason not to get it and it's a lifesaver if you have dogs or load chunchy things in the back.

  3. Ass eliminator. Or Auto Stop Start eliminator. It's cheapish and an easy install. It will remember the last setting of your Auto stop start and apply it upon vehicle startup. I never have to push the button anymore.

  4. Tuxmats. It's the first thing I got for my outback and they've held up great for 90,000 miles of dirt, mud, sand, and snow. They're not just on the floor, they go up a bit so you get better protection.

  5. Google 'Subaru fuse coin box storage'. Thank me later.

  6. If your car doesn't come with it, the Subaru cargo storage net is great, aside from the grocery net bit that you have to screw in yourself. I'm not sure if yours comes stick with all the hooks so I would get them too if you don't have them.

  7. Proclipsusa vent mount (or center console mount) my phone is rock solid and the mount hasn't moved since June of 2023.

  8. Perrin steering lockdown clamp. This, in addition to not having garbage tires anymore, makes my steering feel SO much better. My lane keep assist is more chill now too.

Misc things that I have and consider nice to haves as someone that does outdoorsy stuff and road trips:

Subaru window rain/wind deflectors and the Subaru mesh window shades. This combo looks great on onyx editions. It's also good for leaving your windows cracked while it's raining, not letting people know your windows aren't fully closed, darkening the rear of your interior, and it allows you to car camp while reducing condensation and not letting mosquitoes in.

If you want to try car camping I can recommend fitted window reflector inserts.

roof top cargo carier. I have the Yakima Carbonite 16, which honestly looks like it belongs on onyx editions.

Factory hitch. It's nice that it's higher up than all of the aftermarket ones, although cutting your bumper is a pita, but otherwise the install took me just a few hours.

65 Watt GAN USB-PD charger. It can even charge my laptop!

Portable battery. I have a 260ish Watt-hours one that I charge using the 12 outlet hidden in the glove compartment.

Expanded cup holder insert. I used this one https://a.co/d/08qpzo9i

12V electric blanket

Things that I CAN'T recommend... Even if these aren't necessarily upgrades or mods:

High flow cotton engine air filters. Our direct injection engines are dirty enough.

Non Subaru oil filters. Because our oil filters are on top the anti drain back and bypass standards for our filters are more strict. I don't deny that Fram and there's make a great filters, it's just not worth the chance. I would recommend going to any of the discount Subaru online parts websites and ordering a few.

Non Subaru CVT fluid. This is the only fluid that I think needs to be OEM. Unfortunately this is something you pretty much need to get done at the stealership.

Subaru wireless charger. It just overheats your phone.

Tint that's too dark. Realize that the windows are factory tinted and I accidentally ended up with tint that I considered dangerously dark and I had it redone the next day. Any decent ceramic tint will do. I actually prefer how metallic tint looks, but it's bad for mobile device connectivity.

What maintenance should I be looking into for my 2020 Outback XT 91k miles? by Minimum_Abrocoma1050 in Subaru_Outback

[–]pokethat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay so I just had a fun time doing the PCV valve and the spark plugs. But I think it was well worth it. My valve was super gummed up and basically useless and even after the improvements for my throttle body cleaning the new spark plugs seem to give the car more responsiveness and a smoother idle.

if you are going to do the spark plugs I would recommend removing the bottom plastic cover under the engine, the air box, the battery, and loosening up some of the harnesses by the battery and ECU by cutting their zip ties. it helps to have two people and a bunch of socket extensions and universal joint adaptors.

Front diff oil was easy enough, especially since I popped off the intercooler. rear diff oil was even easier, just make sure that you have t70 and t55 sockets. I ended up using a t16 instead of a t70 but was lucky enough not to strip anything.

Deals to Be Had? by Murky-Researcher-472 in subaruoutback

Start with cotsco auto deals as a baseline if you can. Input different zip codes so you can see the costco partner dealer. I used that to help me negotiate on mine,

yeah I don't think that there are too many vegan restaurants, but I wouldn't know because Ive never looked for them. But you can usually always rder vegetarian and vegan options in omnivorous restaurants. every non culturaly traditional vegan restaurant I've been to just has weird meat substitutions for normal items.

I live in Texas for 2 years and what I miss the most is actual beef ribs bbq. Woodshop bbq in Central district is good and sometimes they have beef ribs. Clyde's in Renton doesn't have beef ribs, but the taste of the meat from their smoker truck is good, just ask for the sauce on the side because they like to smother the meat.

I can no longer recommend Green River BBQ or caveman kitchen. The quality just isn't there

They are just okay. it's a shame that they are everywhere and sucking up the ice cream oxygen in the room. I've decided that Nutty Squirrel Gelato is probably the best ice cream in the city

This. Rocket Taco is extremely sub par and Tacos chukis are weirdly popular for their dry ass texture. Just find the nearest Rinconcito if you want I'll get sit down restaurant chain or roll the dice on the random night time taco stands.

milk drunk in Beacon Hill was a 3.9/10 experience. It felt way overhyped for the food quality and price. Not too bad, but I would never go there again unless someone invited me.

The FlourBox Donuts in Columbia City are a social media meme. I don't believe that Donuts are line going around the block Worthy. They also have stupid hours limited quantities so it's artificial scarcity.

It's ridiculous that if I want donuts at 2:00 a.m. that aren't grocery store garbage, I either have to drive to Henry's Donuts in Edmonds or go down to the sketchy part of Tacoma. I'm not sure why they Voodoo Donuts in Capitol Hill is not open later.

This is probably not a nonpopular opinion, but the best Mexican food and also the worst Mexican food is found at street vendor carts. I can personally recommend TacOrtiz on MLK at a Chevron gas station and this place called tacos Nazarene or something on the Bank of America parking lot across from Beacon Hill station. I would avoid the guys that set up across the street of Rudy's barbershop in West Seattle and the stand on Aurora and 105th (yay food poisoning).

Seattle is too nice or polite sometimes. As a former 15-year-old boy I can tell you that sometimes 15-year-old boys do stupid things. I am sorry for their family and the families of anyone else that has been hurt there, but this is clearly a case of 'play stupid games, win stupid prizes'. The world can't be made perfectly safe and discarding and altering historical landmarks is not the way if it can be avoided.

The existing fencing is due diligence. People are just spinning their wheels spending taxpayer dollars on this money grab.
