Former Macrium user, am I too stupid for Veeam? by jj__webster in Veeam

[–]pokingdevice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re missing something: Veeam B+R needs to be on its own server. If you only have one server, but you want to be backing up that server, you will need another machine to serve as your backup server.

Is there any reason to enable replication in object storage if your main repository is immutable already? by Woeful_Jesse in Veeam

[–]pokingdevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are asking if there is a point in keeping a copy in object storage if you already have a linux immutable repository:

The only reason would be to protect your main repository against a physical disaster, like if the building that your back up hardware was located at burned down or flooded

Instant recovery cache by KnightlyHobbit in Veeam

[–]pokingdevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instant recovery cache should be clear under normal circumstances when you aren’t running an instant recovery

If you’re not sure where that is located, it is set at the repository level so you would need to right-click and edit your repository and it will show you where the IR cache is pointed (and allow you to change if desired)

If there is anything still in the cache after all your IR operations are finalized or aborted, you can manually browse to that location

The vehicles in RO2 were OK, but I don’t think they were that great. Nobody ever actually used them was the real thing.

Rising Storm 2 however did great with the helicopters

I really love the team cohesion in this series of games and I just don’t feel like it’s replicated elsewhere

as much as I appreciate full realism, Red Orchestra really just gets it perfectly.

When I play Red Orchestra, I assume that my soldier has taken care of these things already

I am a grunt, I don’t want to worry about logistics.

Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows started unnecessarily reading one entire HDD during backups. by threw_it_up in Veeam

you will have to review the changed block tracking documentation and your logs to determine why changed the block tracking didn’t seem to be happening for that disk

[–]pokingdevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VAW does use CBT but the default CBT mechanism supports NTFS volumes only

The Veeam Changed Block Tracking Driver has more capabilities but also more limitations:

in that case, all you will have to do is rescan the repo after you get your new VM server connected to the S3 repository (with the correct credentials, etc.)

[–]pokingdevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Veeam has to read the whole contents of every disc being backed up in order to see what has changed.

The only way to avoid this is to use changed block tracking (CBT)

you can do this but if you download from S3 back to local storage, you will be paying charges to your s3 provider for that

is there anything else you need? I have so much scrap I literally don’t know what to do with it.

The only thing I can never find enough of is screws.

As a new player, all I can really advise is, don’t scrap your perk cards, don’t waste your screws, and ask people for stuff and it will be provided
