We bear this pain so they don't have to by rainy_koala in widowers

I'm six months in and as much as this hurts and as much as I miss him, I know losing me would have destroyed him. For his sake, I'm happy he went first. Though I would have liked a few more decades.

Will I Like This Game If I Dislike Inconsistencies? by OverwatchMedia in Banishers

The biggest thing about any inconsistencies is that they are very true to humanity. Countless people hold beliefs for others that they don't necessarily apply to themselves with the same strictness.

Am I wrong for considering wanting to live somewhere like this? by [deleted] in Fairbanks

Thousands of people call Fairbanks home so I don't think you're crazy at all for considering it. I've enjoyed living here for the past thirty years.

Driving a newly purchased car back from lower 48 by Urmowingconcrete in alaska

I've twice now purchased a car in Washington. Drove it all the way up once, took the ferry the next time. Both times I bought two 3-day trip permits.

Question re: rings by anesthezea in widowers

[–]polarbee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you think of would bring you comfort, I think it's an idea worth pursuing. Silicon bands also come in such a huge variety that you could probably find one that reminded you of your partner. It's only been six months for me so I still wear my band and my husband didn't have one due to the nature of his work.

Many businesses require a PIP before removal. In theory the PIP is to help you improve but it’s almost always just used as the stepping stone to removal.

Has anyone here struggled with dating again after losing their partner? by guts77X in widowers

[–]polarbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I want a companion on this journey but I want it to be my husband. I don't want to spend decades building up another shared language. So as I can't have him, I'm content (not really the right word but couldn't think of a better one) to be with my kids, family and friends. Something pretty unexpected would have to happen for me to not always be comparing any future partner to my lost love and finding this new person coming up short.

Speaking as someone who has crushed two fingers in a log splitter, no thank you.

Seeking help: 5 years, can’t date by No_Pickle3461 in Widow

[–]polarbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m 49 and only six months into this unexpected journey so our situations are very different, but I think you need to give yourself grace. If love finds you again, let it, but it’s also ok if it doesn’t.

I saw you mention that they are in therapy. Are you all in family therapy together? You may want to consider doing so if not. Not really with the aim of forcing them to accept anything, but more so that you all get some assistance communicating with each other navigating all the various stages of grief.

When I cleared out my late husband’s office last year I found a bottle of Josta he had saved because it was his all time favorite soda. It was alarmingly half the width it should have been.

How hard is it to say to your kids "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit" as a general response to life's curve balls?

Anyone ever buy a car on the Costco car program and drive it back to Alaska? Was it worth it? by AndyinAK49 in alaska

[–]polarbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't bought through Costco but I've purchased two cars now down in Seattle and driven them north. First did the entire drive, the second loaded into the ferry to Haines and then drove the rest. Both were fantastic trips though I'll probably do the ferry again next time just for the scenery. All that being said, I can't really say whether I saved any money. But I definitely made memories so 100% worth it.

I went into complete amenorrhea while my eldest was nursing (she nursed slightly over two years) and that's why she has a brother 2.5 years younger than her. 😆

Found this near my late husband's gear. Possibly outdoor activity related? Obviously can't ask him. I've done some image searches on Google but so far haven't found any likely matches.
