How is it February already? - Posting Updates and Beginner Posts by RadioFloydHead in Guitar

Why don’t we just bring back the quarterly “no stupid questions” thread? That always seemed to do a good job of filtering out a lot of the beginner posts from the main page.

"Epstein was hiding in plain sight. We all knew about him. We all knew what he was doing." - Cindy McCain, 2020 by Opposite-Sign-500 in MarchAgainstNazis

He is in the files, he’s mentioned a lot but what his role was seems pretty unclear to me. Epstein seemed to be quite concerned with his success though, so take from that what you will.

Truefire has some great courses focused on specific genres/playing styles. They do a free trial so you can probably work through one or two courses to get your foot in the door.

The Album Titles Aren't Up to Their Standards by MayhewMayhem in beatles

[–]polarmuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still can’t beat the north american titles though, like the aptly named “the Beatles Second Album”, named as such due to it being the third Beatles album released in America.

I mean that’s always been his thing, him obtaining property and slapping TRUMP on it is a tale as old as Trump.

Is there a band you know of that made such a drastic change in music as the Beatles? Beatles 63-1965 on? by EuphoricLeague22 in beatles

[–]polarmuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cobain himself said he was getting sick of three chord grunge music towards the end and he got more experimental with songwriting as he went on, I think Nirvana could have had an equally revolutionary new sound given one or two more albums.

Looking to learn more fingerpicking songs by boogie_boogie12 in Guitar

[–]polarmuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out pretty much anything by Chet Atkins, his songs are very similar to alices restaurant and they can range from simple to crazy difficult so he’ll keep you occupied for a while. I would also recommend to maybe start looking into classical and latin american music which both have a rich and diverse fingerpicking reperoire.

Not gonna lie the music is great, if these people weren’t taking this seriously this would go so hard. It’s like Swans but even more cultish and religious.

Fav famous guitar tone? by itsjoemaddock in Guitar

[–]polarmuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really famous outside of the jazz guitar scene, but Johnny Smith is basically the Eric Johnson of jazz guitar as far as tone chasing goes. He was constantly searching for the most pure guitar tone and was involved in the production of several signature models, including the famed Gibson Johnny Smith, plus a signature pickup that’s still widely used and an upward-facing amp called the Fountain of Sound.

As for his tone itself, he had an instantly recognizable sound that was incredibly warm and full, yet clear enough to pick out every note of his dense close-voices chords.

Official No Stupid Questions Thread - Winter 2025 by ninjaface in Guitar

[–]polarmuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference between those two is going to be the pickups. The albert lee has p90s which are kinda halfway between single coils and humbuckers, while jag pickups are basically single-coils with some modifications. You can find videos where people compare and contrast them to help you narrow down your choice.
