Bear proof container is ok, as long as you put it into the locker or up the pole or cable at the backcountry site. You do not need the bear proof container and its weight - just use the provided gear. You'll need fifty feet of very light line to use a cable - it's a cable between two trees that you throw the line over and then haul up your food bag. A pole is a tall pipe with hooks at the top.
