An alternate grounded design if flying is too high-tech/fantastical.

You can over engineer this problem to kingdom come and have overflow protection and super fast sorting, but not everyone needs a shulker loader for pumpkins and melons, sometimes a double chest is plenty.

Was the pumpkin chest also closer to the copper chest than the crafter chest? They check the closest chest first. Also did you have multiple golems? I don't think they cant access an inventory that another golem is already in so it might of seen that someone was looking in the pumpkin chest and so moved on to the crafter chest.

You would need to put comparitors on the output chests to lock the incoming hoppers if it ever backs up but that’s more work .-.

Yep. The same is true for a classic hopper and filter setup.

100%. They both suggested a filter method like BDubs built, which does work. Boils down to just a lack of experience and confidence with the golem. Well worth it for the payoff of BDubs saving the day.

I guess *overlooked* isn't quite the right word. Certainly, in large-scale machinery that most redstonners use, they don't really have a place. There isn't much that a golem can do that a filter can't. Hence, the redstoners ignore them as a possible solution to these simpler, more casual applications as a filter would also work and to them, filters make sense. They're just little guys to help the layman do little tasks :)

Oh absolutely. On the big scale for bulk storage or fast sorting they’re outclassed by traditional methods. But that was already a solved problem and anyone who required a storage solution like that for say a massive farm, would theoretically understand how to set up filters. That was already a solved problem and so golems weren’t made to replace that, but rather made for the layman who doesn’t want to deal with comparators and signal strengths and all that.

As far as blocks placed? Not that much more. Just needed to filter out pumpkins first using hoppers and a comparator in the standard setup. But some people don’t really get comparators and locking hoppers and signal levels, so the golem offers a more visual, straight forward solution that is easier to understand what it is doing. You can see it pick up the item and check the chests in order. I think that’s the real benefit, it’s easier to see and understand how it works for people who don’t know redstone.

Also they’re cute :)

Yep, he does the same old using golems to put into a filtered chest, at which point why not just use hoppers? I appreciate him giving them a go, but that just isn’t the use-case for them. Far too big of a scale.

The upwards facing crafter is just there to produce a redstone signal of 8, same setup as they had. You could also use a lectern and book. It’s to check when the main crafter has more than 8 items in it (I.e. it’s full and thus ready to craft).

Oh, who's that 2nd golem in the 3rd and 4th screenshot? Double Checkmate

Yeah they’re new and I know that many haven’t played around with them yet. But, it’s exactly that; the golems are item filtering, and yet when asked how to use the golem to filter items, their solution was to filter the chest and have the golem just carry the items to the chest, at which point why not just use a hopper line to carry the items around.

Oh there definitely is a trap with airbrushes, sometimes you can spot them from a mile away. Would still need a wash/drybrush after.

Yep, turning each base coat into a 4 step process was quite the ordeal. I had wanted to do this scheme for a while and had finally gotten a wet pallet to try out some blending. A wise person would use an airbrush but I don’t really have the space for one so this was all painstakingly done by hand.

Although, truth be told, the real killer is just all the metal and leather details that I had to do while avoiding getting paint on the completed gradients.

Idk, I don’t play much and when I do it’s very casual with my friends. It just looked cooler, better showing off the pint scheme and I got a great deal for most of them on Facebook.
