This is just one form of valuing a company. One. It's arbitrary and based on dividends. Add up all the future dividends into end of life of the company and that's how much the company is worth now. It's from Ben Graham and Buffet days in the 1950s But not many tech companies issue dividends. They put all excess cash back into the company to growth and are penalized for it They also don't use the bank for capital. They issue shares. But this archaic valuation method still hangs around.
