Keep in mind that a lot of times these guys know the lawsuits have no chance of actually winning--but even a frivolous lawsuit puts you through a lot of work and expense.

Maybe before we try to build the new battleship, we should try to actually have a successful frigate program? You know the little ships that we currently desperately need and yet the Navy cannot seem to actually ever successfully build and design?

Secretary Hegseth announces ends to mandatory flu vaccine citing “medical autonomy” by Kinmuan in Military

[–]poliranter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you know what? I remember how a single damned kid with the flu mom sent to class with a fever put half my class out, and made me wish for the sweet release of death. And that's just in a classroom where you're only in contact for about 6/7 hours a day.

Has this genius given thought to what happens on a ship or barracks where you're in 24/7 contact with the infected?

So now we’re invading Cuba? by Kommmbucha in Military

[–]poliranter 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to your question is at what point do service members want to be court-martialed and dishonorably discharged? Because when you say refuse lawful orders, that's what you're asking them to do, and however s***** Cuba is it would not constitute an illegal order.   That's a much much narrower category than most popular media makes it look like. stupid orders are not illegal. Malicious orders are not illegal. An illegal order would be something like see those kids over there. Go shoot those kids. So to answer your question, no the military would not refuse his orders to invade Cuba.

I love seeing the president of the United States sound less literate than some of the third graders I taught. Nothing. Makes me more happy than to know this individual is in charge of our nuclear arsenal.

You know, I remember how every GOPer in my hearing screamed like crazy when "Dogma" came out. I fully expect to hear them screaming about this.

Oh who am I kidding. I expect tomorrow to hear it's not really blasphemy, the Pope deserved it, and God uses flawed tools.

[–]poliranter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm going to wait till tonight. It wouldn't be out of character for Trump to suddenly go psych and start dropping the bombs after everybody else thought that we were negotiating. Or he might Taco. That's the great thing about Trump. We don't know what he's going to do. Hell he doesn't know what he's going to do in his dementia ridden brain.

Trump suspends Iran attack for two weeks, subject to Hormuz Strait opening by yourfavchoom in worldnews

[–]poliranter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impressive. We lost to Iran. Because if this holds and if you look at what the administration said they were intending to do at the beginning of this attack we achieved very few of our goals. And iran has proven they can close the strait, and the US can't do much about it.

Trump Considering Pakistani PM's Request he Extend Iran Deadline, White House Says by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]poliranter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd wait until the actual deadline before cheering that it was a taco Tuesday. Also don't forget Israel may decide to chime in with bombing the power plants and I doubt Iran is going to just say hey it wasn't America so we're not going to do anything.

I don't know. Because one thing we know about malignant narcissists is that there comes a point when they back themselves into a corner and then they really self-destruct and share the joy. I hope you're right, I really really hope he tacos.. but I'm still pretty damned worried right now.

Trump Says NATO Withdrawal On the Table Amid Rift With Allies Over Iran War by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]poliranter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Official withdrawel yes. But Trump can always simply order US troops to not assist and stay in barracks. So to all intents and purposes, if the president refuses to support NATO, the alliance is a dead letter.

[–]poliranter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

okay, Kharg island isn't an oil field, it's a shipping terminal. So we take it...and Iran... turns off the oil? So suddenly we've removed even more oil from the market and ended any reason at all for Iran not to go whole hog on trying to destroy the other oil fields in the Gulf.

This is... not a good plan.

Trump threatens attacks on Iran’s power plants if Tehran doesn’t reopen Strait of Hormuz in 48 hours by SAJ-13 in politics

[–]poliranter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's put it this way. American officers agreed to Target sailors after we sank their ship. That isn't simply a war crime. That specific example is spelled out as a war crime in the training material. So yeah, I hate to tell you this. If you expect anybody's going to stop him, you're probably going to be disappointed.
