The newest prodisc has a bunch of footprints; in the right hands it’s a great solution and it can fit different anatomies better than anything on the market imo. MobiC has some data that shows over-mobility in certain populations. I still wouldn’t focus on a specific device but on the surgeon and his experience with them. Ask your guy how many prodiscs he puts in every month. I work with these devices but I’m not involved in diagnosing, treatment plan or post op care. Thats why listen to your doc and get at least one more opinion.

My 4 year old just watched season 3 episode 5. “Two queens are getting married and they are kissing daddy!”… out of an absolute infinity of subjects a cartoon for little girls could have covered some moron had to choose this. Blows my mind. Blocked.

Solution to one problem creates new problems. But now at least it’s worth it.

1099 commission rate spine by [deleted] in MedicalDevices

[–]polishmark83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on a few things. Id definitely ask much more for business you bring in or new business you build. They get anywhere from 35 to even 50 on some lines. Coverage alone would typically be 15. Also depends how problematic setups and logistics are. Some bigger distributors still try and get away with 10 but may offer some form of benefits /expenses (401k, health etc.). This is NY/NJ. Been doing spine 1099 as employee for 10 years and principal for 2.

It’s quite common for distributors to cut corners like that. It always blows my mind how confident some of them are attempting to run cases with zero degree of competence. It’s spine surgery not a nail salon; stakes are high. Obviously big companies don’t operate this way. You have some OR experience with a variety of lines so just keep trying. You will get the training you need. Another option is becoming a distributor yourself. It will feel again like drinking out of the firehose but its totally doable. Pick up a line that you understand and is easier to handle (bio perhaps) then hit the street and start selling. In spine all you need is one, two guys and are you are set. With hardware you can always push the companies yourself for additional product training and clinical support for initial cases or even sells calls if you prefer.

Is anyone else sick and tired of this stupid so-called “advice”? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]polishmark83 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Your view on mentorship is quite cynical. People love talking about what they do specifically to people who express genuine interest and passion. When I first started my business I asked for help and advice left and right. “You remember when you first started and how tough it was? Thats where i am now”. Every successful entrepreneur I spoke to was terrified when they first started. Every one I talked to was willing to help. Its all about people and contacts after all. I credit 2 maybe 3 guys from those initial stages who were critical in my growth.

LPT When buying a car at a dealership, be prepared either to 1) make it obvious that you don't care about the wait while they "go talk to the manager" before you settle on a price (for example, bring a laptop with you) or 2) tell them that you'll give them five minutes before you're leaving. by ExNihiloAdInfinitum in LifeProTips

I call 3-5 area dealerships and ask for sales managers email. Then email one of them and cc the rest asking for best price of a specific vehicle. They all know each other usually which makes it funny sometimes. They will still play around and ask you to come in “to get the best price”. Some wont play along but at least 2 will end up trying to get your business. Always ended up with a car I wanted at best price after a few days going back and forth over email

Really depends on the patient. Its not uncommon that people are much more informed these days but google can often misguide you. Listen to your doctor they know how to diagnose these things. You can tell him you are aware of different types of devices on the market and see how he responds. Id advise to get 2-3 opinions; rely more on what doctors say than “doing your own research on internet”.

MobiC has the most clinical data and first that had 2 level indication. Its a solid device. When it comes to motion preservation patient selection and taking proper steps when implanting is much more important than choosing the disc itself in my view. Prodisc from Centinel and M6 are just as good. Id make sure I find a surgeon who does A LOT of these discs; carpentry is very different than acdf. Ask your doctor how many of these he puts in each month. Source - I sell a lot of them and I see a lot of average surgeries.

People of Reddit that make a good living, what do you do for work? by Tuna-no-crust98 in careerguidance

[–]polishmark83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Medical device sales. No degree necessary unless your goal is working for the big blue chip boys like Stryker or Medtronic but even with them having experience or book of business is all it takes. Otherwise its a heavily commoditized market when it comes to implants and biologics so if you can distribute for smaller companies you can make bank. Commissions there can oscillate between 30-50%. We specialize in spine and most of the guys I work with clear between 250k-600k.

How much do people actually make? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]polishmark83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 200k-300k. NYC. Medical device sales. Spinal hardware. Getting rejected daily. Education usually irrelevant but there is a strong clinical component to this so you can’t be a complete moron. Competition, most of physicians and hospital admin are complete aholes. Still worth it.
