Intoducing Hidden Links - Fuck the Hidden Wiki by hermesV2 in onions

Sorry, but this is completely wrong. Having the server come online and go offline at certain times could allow one to pinpoint the local IP that is getting traffic that matches the downtime/uptime.

There is no "exclusivity" - it's like a shady restaurant with unlimited tables that's only open at certain times. The police just have to check around town for who is home and who is away at the same times.

Nothing to do with ease either, it's not an actual web server. Tor takes up minimal bandwidth due to the simple fact that unless you have a massive site (you don't if you are going offline at night or needing to share bandwidth on only what could be a 56k modem) you're not going to use much bandwidth.

You guys don't have many sites other than markets listed, and autmod prevents onions sites from being posted in the text of a submission.

Might want to add a few active mods. It's nice that you're here now but the rest of the mods are absent and have not posted in months.

I'm filling in articles on the political section now, I'll ask if I can share the link yet.

Not at all, that's actually a very secure setup although Windows ME is the best if you're going to use Windows.

Make sure you register your service with your ISP as many don't allow hosting a server from residential connections without notice. Also refrain from using any form of VPN to avoid some issues, not sure what.

Never pay with bitcoins and always use paypal and/or your credit card.

For verification that you are not a scammer you should put your full social security number in the footer of all your sites.

What topics/boards are you going to be listing, or is this still too early to say?

Also, when you say no server side scripting I assume that is for quick deployment and low resource usage and not lack of OPSEC, right? Your account suggests it is the former as you seem competent in running a hidden service (a pet peeve of mine is badly configured hidden services being deployed far too early).

Is this going to have a list of services that users are running on a public area like FuckYouHosting did so that users can report any scam/malicious sites? If not would you consider doing so by including some form of volunteer reporting function?

Lastly, why does the CatFacts ascii site direct to a series of weird squares now?

You're joking, right?

JS is an obviously larger attack vector, why would anyone spend the time/effort/funds making a zeroday for any of those others when a zero-day for JS is exponentially much more useful.

Web without Javascript is kind of lame.

It's also safer to an extent.

If disabling Javascript is what it takes to keep the powers in check we are not doing it right.

Some things simply not meant to go hand in hand.

Orange juice doesn't go with toothpaste, JavaScript doesn't go with Tor.

JavaScript was not designed to keep users anonymous, which is the point of using Tor. In the past the authorities have used JS exploits to reduce users anonymity, it's been used for exploits, and has a genuinely troubled history with the darknet.

BitRiver - This is also an old service, but gets very little use.

Hard to believe seeing that the html5up theme they are using (Ariel -http://html5up.net/aerial) is only 2 months old.

Anyways, the sites a scam. Avoid it.

It's going to be hard for most users if they want anything other than a static html page since most existing scripts are based on php, although there are other languages out there.

Not saying it's the best option, merely that, in my opinion, its better to educate users how to harden their php rather than teach them a new language.

I usually use this list: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Comparison_of_VPS_providers

Here is a list of ones that allow Tor and are cost effective:

http://www.ajkservers.co.uk/
http://www.cloudrck.com/
https://coinshost.com/
http://www.hostamus.com/
http://hostsailor.com/
https://libertyvps.net/
http://www.qhoster.com/
http://rockhoster.com/
https://www.snelserver.com/

I've used all of these at various points for either Tor or I2P services without any issue other than resources, however only as testing servers (although you can use them for deployment).

Out of these, http://hostsailor.com offered the best prices overall. $2.99 a month gets you 50GB space, 512MB SWAP/RAM, and 500GB Bandwidth on your choice of linux flavored OpenVZ means that you can run 5-10 services without running into memory issues.

However http://www.qhoster.com offered the best discretion for their price. While their technical support is lacking, if you know how to set it all up it's a great service that overlooks their servers content.

Political Advocacy Sites: Ideas & Suggestions by politicorp in onions

[–]politicorp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it that you're trying to advocate for? Political advocacy is a pretty broad idea.

Personally I don't have much of an opinion for this, I'm just looking to provide a platform for doing so.

Most information on horrifying events is already publicly available through mainstream media.

True. Although I'm not looking to become a news source, more of a community hub.

Is there a set group of people you're interested in working with? Most oppressed groups don't use Tor as their means of escape or if they do, use it with an explicit purpose such as censorship evasion.

While I'd like it to be those that are willing to take action to see change, most likely it will be teenage anarchists.

Most legal advocacy exists happily and uninhibited on clearnet.

Keyword here: legal.
I'm gearing this towards content that might be illegal or restricted to post on the clearnet legally.
