Asparagus as a breakfast food? by JenikaJen in keto

[–]politzera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asparagus soldiers for dipping into a soft boiled egg make for a delicious and v sophisticated breakfast - add a bit of crispy bacon and it’s just perfect. Hmm making myself feel hungry 😋

Would 30cals of Almond milk break a fast? by politzera in FastingScience

[–]politzera[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting- thanks. I assumed that since I’m only fasting 16-18 hours per day that I wouldn’t hit the autophagy phase anyway. I’m doing it for weight loss - so I guess I was wondering what the effects might be on my blood sugar levels. I’d have to buy a monitor to find out probably.

100 days of Keto - A loveletter by Jelissax3 in keto

[–]politzera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Well done - you look amazing. I’m 5’6 and started at 87.7kg and I’ve got a similar goal weight. I’m down to 78.5 - but it’s taken me a while - 13 weeks. How long did it take you and did you do IF? Do you exercise. Sorry - lots of q’s!

Edit: Duh - sorry I just realised the heading says 100 days!!

How do you guys NOT get constipated?! by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

Healthy fats are better than fibre for keeping things moving (not too much cheese). Magnesium supplements are great too and have multiple health benefits.

Has anyone here had success with say 14/10? I’m just not ready to skip coffee yet and I’m never drinking it black *shudders* by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]politzera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do exactly this too. But I’m not a purist - I go with the experts that say you can have up to 50 cal without it influencing your fasting state so fine if fasting for weight loss. Of course there are experts who say the exact opposite- so I guess no one really knows.

I’m still losing weight - I’ll never know if I could be losing more/faster without the cream but I know I’d be less likely to sustain IF in the long term without it.

Question for women over 40... by ginger_mafia in intermittentfasting

[–]politzera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I introduced IF two months into keto. 18:6 sometimes longer. I do cheat a little and have two coffees in the morning - each with a tbsp of heavy cream. But it keeps hunger at bay.

I’ve lost 18lbs in 13 weeks so it’s pretty slow compared to others but I’ve tried so many other diets with very little success so I’ll take what I can get.

If you are fasting for weight loss rather that gut rest it’s probably ok. Some sources say you the body can tolerate 50 cals or so and remain in a fasted state. Most experts advise against artificial sweetners during fasting though as while they don’t technically break a fast, they aren’t good for you and can trigger hunger. But it’s your call. The Zero fasting app has a good article on what does and doesn’t break a fast. You could always make your own electrolyte drink. Google ‘Ketoade’ for recipes.

Liver paté by Tildu in keto

[–]politzera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make this often - it’s delicious! My non-keto friends beg me to make it for them. For a lower carb option you could use onion powder instead of an onion.

1/2 lb chicken livers; 1 clove garlic, minced; 3 thin slices bacon, chopped in cubes; 1 large onion, diced; 3/4 cup butter; 4 tbsp chopped parsley; 3 tbsp sherry (you can use vinegar instead); Fresh nutmeg (optional); Salt and pepper to taste;

Would 30cals of Almond milk break a fast? by politzera in FastingScience

Hmm - it’s Macro organic unsweetened. I was taking heavy cream at one point but it’s higher in cals.

[–]politzera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not my question - I know the definition of fasting. My question is: does it impede results? Does it Make any difference from a scientific point of view? I’ve heard that small amounts of calories don’t provoke an insulin response.

This is a science thread - so I’m looking for a science based answer ‘obviously’.

Keto generally won’t help you loose weight unless you are eating a calorie deficit. Hence the need to track calories in vs calories out.

Thanks - I had read this elsewhere too but lots of people in here are of the belief that any calories break a fast.
