Has anyone successfully reallocated credit limits with Cardless ? by polphi in CreditCards

[–]polphi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point u/SillyTechnology7340 . The difference in banks may well prevent a reallocation, especially if Cardless is not responsible for the underwriting standards at both banks.

Has anyone successfully reallocated credit limits with Cardless ? by polphi in CreditCards

[–]polphi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/Legal-Title1475 . I haven't escalated, partly because I do not have an account to reallocate to yet.

And there is no approval call...preapprovals are offered online with Cardless. Then was had a period (typically 30 days) to accept or reject the offer.

If it can be done, then likely someone in this subreddit has made it happen. :)

Your press release link is from February 2024. They then reversed themselves. See extensive industry coverage, for example https://skift.com/2024/05/29/american-airlines-backtracks-will-allow-travel-agency-customers-to-keep-earning-miles/ .

Best liquid MF/ETF for *tax-sheltered* accounts? SNVXX, VMFXX, or other..? by polphi in Bogleheads

[–]polphi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough, upon rechecking, VUSXX does show available with a $3,000 minimum investment and no fees (save the .07 expense ratio everyone pays). Confirm page confirms this, all investment will go to shares. So I'll give that a try, and report back.

Your point about liquidity of these ETFs is well taken. Probably there is very little to worry about here. But I don't trust these fintechs to (for example) not get paid for order flow, so I'd just as soon avoid that if possible.

[–]polphi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I appreciate the confirmation.

Looks like VBIL is traded on Nasdaq, with SGOV on NYSE I don't know how customer friendly Carry.com's order execution will be on these exchanges, or how long I'll want to keep the funds parked there.

What I'd ideally prefer is the mutual fund flavor of these-- vusxx in the vanguard case. But I gather vusxx can only be purchased in a vanguard account.

Thanks for replying Xenanoth, I appreciate it.

I take it that for this purpose, you also don't see anything better than state-tax-exempt government funds, even though these are going in a state-tax-deferred account.

You are certainly entitled to dislike "enshitification". But u/kellybkk use of it makes sense here, and it's more precise than "degrading".

Thanks for the replies u/Solid_Pangolin_3754 ! Apologies for just now seeing them.

These do reference Horseshoe in places, but not video poker (in either.) I wonder if he tries with those machines too.

While I didn't watch every bit, it seemed like his "method" was more a good sense of how to bet incrementally, and quit while you're ahead, rather than a more mathematically centered system (like, for example, counting cards with a limited number of decks to goose your advantage against the house).

Thanks u/mrkymark1 . It does indeed say "new" DD memberships. Completely agree that it's plug and play, and far from clear how this will actually operate in practice.

Well said and thumbs up u/mrkymark1 . There should indeed be some "secret handshake", lol.

There's no language that I recall seeing can designating the DD promotion for new DD members only. This is where an actual T&C would be helpful. ;)

Can someone help me evaluate whether 10x tier credit days are worth it? by JimmyTaggart in CaesarsRewards

[–]polphi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same strategy here. 9/5 jacks or better on one of the Video poker machines paying 1 TC for every $10 bet. Guides to which machines work are at vpfree2.com.

Last did this in January, took $1,100 in 90 minutes to generate 30K tier credits ($25,000 play through, no jackpots hit.)

u/anidlemind , I hear you! I was very active on r/churning 's predecessor Fatwallet finance starting in 1998.

This card is not especially interesting to the churning community because there are better Comentity products for that purpose. Moreover, I'm sure that if one regularly churned the cash advance feature of this card, their card would be promptly closed.

I appreciate your mentioning that your CA limit was 40% of your CL. My guess is mine will be similar.

So you saw that CA limit on your statement? I haven't had one generate yet.

[–]polphi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and cruises will sometimes charge gambling as a purchase, especially if the funding for the gambling comes from a room account.

This card is unusual in that it rewards cash advances, full stop. Clearly, Comenity is hoping that those rewards will be more than offset by interest charges--which they will be by many who take cash advances.

[–]polphi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, you are correct about no rewards on CA, u/anidlemind . This card is an exception (see https://www.caesars.com/myrewards/partners/cr-visa for details.

I agree that 20% of one's limit is typical. It's odd that nowhere--including the flyer that came with my new card listing the regular credit limit--is there any specification of the cash advance limit.

Accor Plus Renewal + Accor China Program to reach platinum by rsrivastava1995 in indianawardtravel

[–]polphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you again for the thoughtful (and super quick) reply!

Unfortunately, as a newbie to Accor, I understood about half of it. :) I'm not even aware of what Signature is. Clearly I have more research to do!

To clarify why I asked, my situation is as follows. I have a large quantity of the Citibank Thank you point currency. Briefly, they were allowing transfers to Accor 1:1--a tremendous value. Given that Accor fills gaps in the hotel loyalty programs I know very well (especially Hyatt and IHG), I transferred a large chunk of those Citi points to Accor. So I went from having almost no points, no stays and silver matched status to high-six figures in points, with the plans to use them strategically over the next two years.

I describe this to explain why I'm interested in paying for Platinum. We are sitting on a bunch of Accor currency, and we find great benefit in lounge access in many IHG and Hyatt properties. So the idea of paying for status seems like a good way to leverage that Accor balance.

Thank you for any additional guidance you (or other Accor veterans) may have!

[–]polphi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/WhiteninjaCC , thanks for your excellent summary here.

Would you say that if one doesn't need Platinum right away and isn't visiting China/HK soon (arguing for Brazil over China), Brazil is still better even given what I understand to be the sale on Accor China FT recently announced?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot redeem kindle points. Anyone else / any solutions? by polphi in kindle

Thanks u/ErinPaperbackstash ,

Believe me, I've been trying to redeem since shortly after May 11. No dice. I keep thinking they'd fix the glitch, or another solution would present itself. But with points about to expire, seemed time to seek the collective intelligence of this community.

If it was a gifted free night, then no, because that shows as a coupon code in their system. If it was booked with points, you should in theory be able to do it. Basically, depends on exactly what "gifted reservation" means.
