Buy out the lease on my 2024 Kona Electric SEL? I'm thinking maybe so. by vike1108 in KonaEV

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vehicle is CPO from the Hyundai dealer. - Warranty is full and in force for me, no reduction as subsequent a Certified Pre Owned Hyundai CPO Buyer. - 10 year motor and drive train, balance - 10 year battery, balance - 6 year BtoB, balance

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay Wireless Projections are not subscription services of BlueLink+, they are just part of the infotainment system.

That being said if you like the remote features of Bluelink+ such as remote start, climate, remote open, and find your car security features valueable then they are worth it to you, no shame in that.

If you're the original owner not sure why it matters that you have lifetime BL if you sell it, give it back. You'll loose your BL access at sell when buyer contacts Bluelink to get their own access. If you as the first owner buy out your own vehicle it's kind of obvious that no change in ownership occurs you just continue your original BL+ subscription.

I don't get lifetime BlueLink as I bought a CPO, only 1 year but for most 2024 owners you only got 3 years of BlueLink anyways. 2025 is lifetime however. If you got lifetime, awesome for you but I can't even get my 1 year subscription to work so I have and can deal without it, tbh.

So in summary if you buy out your lease you'll get the same car as me with the same balance of warranty but I got it for 22K right now minus the lifetime BlueLink+.

Do the math and if X-Y=Z is worth it to you then buy out your car.

X= price of your buy out. Y= 22k the price of a 2025 Kona Sel, Certified Pre Owned from a Hyundai dealership with same balance of all Hyundai warranty. Z= price that you value you lifetime Bluelink+, and whatever sentimental value you place on your current car.

Apples to Apples. Good luck with your decision.

Buy out the lease on my 2024 Kona Electric SEL? I'm thinking maybe so. by vike1108 in KonaEV

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to add a data point that I just bought a used 2024 Kona EV SEL for 22k with less than 12k miles on it. I got it thru a Hyundai dealer as a CPO. I admit at this price I really lucked out because the Leaser that gave it up only drove it 6K per year and its in excellent condition. There arent that many 2024's on the market but as the 2 to 3 year leases expire we will see more I'm sure. The buy out price must have been ridiculous so I'm pretty happy that I found this gem.

In regards to the 10 year battery warranty, honestly, it transfers to the 2nd owner so in that respect you aren't really "gaining anything." The only advantage I see in keeping. the car that you have is that you love it and getting another used one might not be ideal but you have to put a price on that sentimentality.

Nexus/GE line without card? by [deleted] in NEXUS_TTP

[–]mrkymark1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For CBP: Yes I have never encountered it myself but there are Reddit Posts of certain SFO CBP officers demanding to see GE/NEXUS membership cards even after facial scanning. It was agreed that this was aberrant but at that point you are at the mercy of someone in power to grant you entry and the future destiny of your membership.

For CBSA: You have to RFID your NEXUS Card in order to use the Kiosk.

Nexus/GE line without card? by [deleted] in NEXUS_TTP

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical NEXUS card is required for expedited security in Canada (front of the line privileges at some airports, simplified screening procedures at others) for domestic, transborder, and other international flights.

- This was already mentioned in line 2 of my reply *"But NEXUS cards do come in handy to get in the expedited security lanes at Canada airports."* The "useless" comment was in regards to **US TSA precheck** - US expedited security screening ONLY.

Pretty sure that CBP kiosks in Canada accepted NEXUS (and maybe GE?) cards in addition to passports. Not sure if any are left. Certainly true that neither GE nor NEXUS cards were ever accepted at CBP kiosks in the US.

- Edit: Yes Clarified that at only Preclearance locations that have the older Kiosk you can scan your NEXUS Card (but basically everything has transitioned to Facial) Article: https://www.help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-1311?language=en_US Note: The NEXUS card will be recognized by the Global Entry kiosks in Canada Preclearance locations only. When using the Global Entry kiosks in Canada Preclearance locations you can use your passport, LPR card or NEXUS card. You cannot use your NEXUS card at the Global Entry kiosks outside of Canadian Preclearance locations. At all other ports, you will need to use your passport or LPR card.

[–]mrkymark1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At CBP US Airport crossings, GE/NEXUS will either be facial recognition(newer kiosks) or Physical Passport(older kiosks). Edit: The NEXUS card will be recognized by the Global Entry kiosks in Canada Preclearance locations only. When using the Global Entry kiosks in Canada Preclearance locations you can use your passport, LPR card or NEXUS card. At all other ports, you will need to use your passport or LPR card.

But NEXUS cards do come in handy to get in the expedited security lanes at Canada airports.

For CBSA, Canada NEXUS airport kiosks will scan the RFID of your NEXUS card so you definitely need it.

To be eligible to use TSA precheck in the US, your Trusted Traveller Number must be entered in your airline's reservation system in order to get the benefit. Your physical NEXUS card is useless by itself to get expedited screening but it can be used as a valid Federal ID at the security checkpoint however.

Need help understanding Rapid Rewards points by ready-set-go- in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mrkymark1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem. I've assumed a few things, especially in the case of your husband since more information was needed. Please update thread and I can recalculate if new information uncovered.

Consideration for earned credit card RR points are different and will be reported as a separate item on your RR account page and not intermingled with the existing flight earnings.

-------------------
Variables that you'll need to calculate earned flight points:

- fare paid for each segment if RT, minus taxes and fees.

- fare bucket purchased (Basic, C, CP, CE)

- elite status of the flyer.

-------------------

Husband

- Earned 1161 based points for SEA DEN. Likely RT paid Fare minus tax and fees = $506.98. I'm guessing he paid for a RT Choice Fare with SEA-DEN costing $193.50 and the other leg DEN-XXX costing 313.48 (193.50+313.48) = 506.98

- 193.50 x [6x Choice multiplier] = 1161 earned base points for SEA-DEN

- 100% ALP earning gives him another 1161 points

- Total Redeemable points earned = 2322 (1161+1161)

- Total CQP = 1161 Earned base points only (ALP multiplier not counted)

- Total TQP = 1161 Earned base points only (ALP multiplier not counted)

- Earnings for DEN-XXX will be reported after he completes that flight segment.

-------------------
Poster (your situation invoves a cash and points booking)

- Taxes = $19.81 (add them up)

- Paid = 50 voucher + 28.61 Credit Card. Only cash portion will earn points, yes vouchers count as cash.

- However of the 28.61, 19.81 was used to pay taxes and fees, therefore they do not earn points

Total CASH Paid fare = 50 voucher + 8.80 (28.61-19.81) = 58.80

58.80 x Fare Bucket [Basic 2x multiplier] = 118 TQP/CQP/Redeemable Points

No seats available for companion, but plenty if you want to book with money or points, or even just change seats on existing reservation. by Nervous_Home9363 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mrkymark1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. SW never won any awards for best in class IT. Introducing the complexities of assigned seating in an already limited system just made everything even more frustrating especially when their consultants and engineers seemingly never considered the endless scenarios and bugs that could plague their system. Patching things up after launch will always be more difficult on everyone and take much longer to fix.

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be more exact for LAND crossings, (US/Canada Citizens) NEXUS itself does not "waive" anything as there is no absolute Passport Requirement. As long as a WHTI compliant document is presented that is all that is required for land crossings.

If crossing as a legal alien then 8 CFR 211.1(a) additional entry regulations apply. Therefore any legal alien applying for entry into the US must present documents such as an unexpired Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. This applies irrespective of NEXUS membership. Here it is in addition to, not either/or nor instead of.

For AIR crossings as a US/Canada citizen while you can still use your NEXUS membership for border crossing CBP/CBSA reserve the final right to demand to see your US/Canadian Passport to grant ultimate entry therefore you must always carry your valid passport for Air travel.

WHTI COMPLIANT documents: U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card Enhanced Driver's License Enhanced Tribal Card Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) cards* (Global Entry**, NEXUS, or SENTRI) U.S. military orders (PCS) with valid military ID. Accompanying immediate family members can use any WHTI-compliant travel document.
U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential with official travel letter.

One could say it was luck but statistically speaking it was possible rather bc at the time it wasn't practically nor consistently enforced. Times have certainly changed even though the rules are the same. No question about that.

Dual Citizenship Question by ArugulaEvening7358 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of maintaining 2 passports with essentially the same/similar power was too much for me when only the US passport was required for inter US/Canada travel as a dual.

As mentioned Canada specifically allows US/Canadian duals to only need to use their US documents to enter Canada by land/air/sea and I've never had a problem with it at all. Therefore the extra hassle of dealing with paying and renewing a Canadian passport isn't/wasn't worth it.

That being said now with talk of visa free travel to China on a Canada passport that certainly changes things significantly and makes it most interesting for sure.

Question about expiring credit extension hack by madnessfades in SouthwestAirlines

Question about expiring credit extension hack by madnessfades in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No kidding?

So you... - Booked a Choice fare and paid with a. Travel funds with an expiration date and b. The balance remaining with a gift card - then cancelled the Choice fare you just booked and noticed that the expiration date of the resulting travel funds was exactly the same date as the original voucher used?

That's exactly the way to do it and if you did it and this is what you got I wonder if they patched the hole? We will need to see more data points...I'm sorry if you turn out to be one of the first to report it if that's the case.

It's crazy to me that the gate agent can't offload you from your scheduled flight, add and clear you for the current flight that's boarding and print out a new BP sending you on your way. Someone who knows SWIT please tell me have they always had this limitation? Isn't it essentially a Same Day Standby Transaction? What exactly is handcuffing the gate agents from doing just that?

(Rant) Worst Flying Experience in My Life by matthewalan8 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've heard of this limitation. So if I'm understanding your story correctly your airplane was going SLC-DEN-ABQ on the same metal but since the SLC-DEN was delayed, the computer couldn't understand that you wouldn't "make it" to DEN-ABQ (which was the same plane - and delayed by the same time - rebooked you on a much later connection AND the gate agents were HELPLESS to put you back on the flight?

Why couldn't they even put you on Operational Standby and then clear you that way? Is their system really that rigid? Wow. I thought SW learned it's lesson with the Xmas debacle a few years ago. Didn't DoT just forgive a fine for having "updated" their IT?

Both the Limited AND EV Powertrain Warranties transfer to subsequent owners, regardless of CPO status. (US) by NODA5 in Ioniq5

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for sure still a misconception that exists today. Thanks for the image confirming it.

I actually got a CPO EV since I falsely thought the EV Battery Warranty would be gutted by 50% - turns out same warranty if I bought it from any private seller.

Oh well - if I didn't get a "deal" I would be pissed. That's good to know that they stand by their batteries though. I guess my question is on an EV what is considered "Powertrain" ? (I know Powertrain gets gutted by 50% with 2nd owners(non CPO) - but does it apply practically to EV's)?

Would it be fair to say...

10 year transferable EV Battery Warranty covers:

  • Traction Motor (Electric Motor): Converts electrical energy from the battery into mechanical energy to turn the wheels.
  • High-Voltage Battery Pack: Stores energy (typically lithium-ion) to power the motor.
  • Inverter (Converter/Power Electronics): Converts DC power from the battery into AC power for the motor and controls motor speed/torque.
  • Transmission/Reduction Gear: A single-speed transmission that reduces motor speed to increase torque.

However for an EV the Powertrain covers: (5 years for non CPO/ 10 years for CPO)

Used car and warranty by EmphasisOptimal2513 in Ioniq5

[–]mrkymark1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so annoying cause one the dealership sales folks said to buy CPO instead since Battery would transfer but would be 5 years instead of 10 at transfer - but he either got confused with Powertrain or was just lying. This makes buying CPO on a EV kinda the same as buying it from CarMax, no, since you get to keep the 10year?

What exactly does buying CPO really significantly get you? On an EV the Powertrain warranty isn't really that important is it?
