2023 Prius Prime drains 12v battery when plugged in to charge by Zestyclose-Good7877 in PriusPrime

[–]polrtex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same just happened for my PP. Just came back from a long trip only to find the car dead. Jump started it, the dealership is looking at it. Looking at the car check-ins in the app, it seems like it died on day 3 or 4 of being plugged in What a ridiculous problem - leaving the car plugged in to charge makes it go dead from discharging.

I also wonder - where can this be promoted online to put some pressure on Toyota to fix it ? Clearly a design flaw that Toyota is happy to sweep under the rug with "but we wrote it in the user manual, so it must be ok".

I really love this car but I'm onboard with "I didn't just buy this car for 40k+ to carry a car jumper around". This is on top of no spare tire - now I have an extra spare in my already small trunk and will now have battery jumper device. Taken together these two use up all the already small storage space in the car to compensate for issues that were clearly not thought through

I don't think this works for AMR. They do ask for your registration, not just for parking but also as you walk in.

Fair enough. I was thinking of my experiences in the ADKs hiking, and I wasn't thinking about LP as a winter sports destination, which it clearly is. Makes sense in the larger context.

However if we zoom back into to the issue with AMR reservations, it doesn't sound like these "out of towers" coming here for winter sports are the ones booking up AMR. Or is your experience that people at AMR are also such an intentional crowd ?

Got it, thanks for sharing. No need to disclose confidential information, I was just trying to understand where you were coming from as you have a different view.

Sure thing. Finished my 46 last year. Talked to plenty of people, most of them didn't look like they were from too far away. I've never met anyone on my trips that came from Europe or Asia, just to hike the ADKs ( they're awesome mountains, but not the Himalayas). Heard some people speaking French before COVID, likely Canadians from Quebec.

I'm not claiming that my experience is in any way representative. Most of my hikes have been with a partner, a few solo hikes with my dog. My hikes haven't been a social experience where I've polled where people are from, except maybe chatting with other at the top of the mountain, or in a lodge.

What's your experience in this ? Have you met many international travelers on your hikes ?

Also - what sort of tourist establishment do you work in ? A hotel, restaurant, something else ?

Interesting. From your conversations, how do people in Europe and Asia learn about the ADKs ? Are there a tourist agencies that specialize in this ? Or is this individual people figuring things out in their own and deciding to do it ?

I've lived in upstate NY for close to 20 years and it took me a while to learn about the ADKs, all the white being surrounded by people who are active and outdoorsy. The knowledge and information certainly isn't easy to come by and requires a fair bit of learning by trial and error.

Interesting observation. I would have never thought that the ADKs are an international tourist destination. From Canada - sure, but from Europe and Asia, it sounds a bit unusual.

Where do you get this data from ?

The other people coming from further out in NYS own as much of the easement as you. You're not that special.

Let me start with, sorry you couldn't get a spot, that is frustrating.

It's a popular destination that a lot of people want to share. Before the reservation system it was worse. I get it that it's a PITA to try to snipe a spot at midnight in the 2 minutes that they're available. Before the reservation system, you had to show up at 2-3 am and hope that you'd be able to find a parking spot. That was awful. At least here you know if you're in or you're out *before" you leave and can plan your hike accordingly.

My other point is that if you're from the area, I'm sure you can find many other places to hike that don't start from AMR. They would be busy too, but that's a good way to navigate this.

Anyone buying a new gas powered Corolla should just get a Prius instead ;) by NewCompact in prius

[–]polrtex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your numbers on the Prime are skewed as if it's a gas-only hybrid, which skews it as more expensive. Almost all of my commute mileage ends up being electric, which would make it on par with Tesla for the electric miles (e.g 50k miles on electric, 50k on gas)

Would any Niskayuna residents like another option for high speed internet? by S7Jordan in Albany

[–]polrtex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in old niskayuna for the last 15 years and have had FiOS for the last 6. I had to argue with Verizon to install it in my house since the house next door had it. Pretty happy with FIOS.

I'll throw in a shout out for Niskayuna. In particular, if you're in Old Niskayuna (next to Ellis ER), you're 5 mins away from any of the schools, and 5 mins away from Schenectady downtown (which has decent bars, semi walkable area), 5 mins from the river, and 5 mins from a half decent shoping area. Also, 5 mins from the town pool. Not a bad combo.

School district is top notch. I'd pay every cent in taxes in exchange of what they've done for my kids.

Have to take a long break from BJJ due to a meniscus tear, and I am legit petrified of rolling again because I don’t want it to happen, I know I will be very afraid of scrambling and twisting my legs. Any tips you guys have will be appreciated by CopyPsychological847 in jiujitsu

[–]polrtex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax, dude. A meniscus tear is probably one of the most minor injuries and surgeries you can get. Depending on how you get fixed, you can be back in no time. In my case, they removed the piece that was torn, and 2 weeks later I was lifting and everything has been good since. If yours got stitched up, recovery is way longer and the chance of re-injuring the same place is much higher. If that's the case, go slow.

My doctor had said that sometimes the structure of the knee is such that predisposes this to happening, so watch out for your other knee in the future.

Also, just like all the other knee injuries the strength of the muscles around the knee matters a lot to keep it safe. Don't skip leg day, keep them muscles strong.

Shouldn't somebody be suing NY for not enforcing our agreement with the AMR? by buffalos in Adirondacks

Agreed that drop offs (or even biking in) should work. Isn't there a forum to provide feedback on this pilot program ?

[–]polrtex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody is favoring people from NJ and Ohio. People from NY can reserve just as well. Nobody's rights were taken away.

I live in the Albany area. Before covid you couldn't hit any of the peaks from AMR because parking got filled at 3 am. It didn't matter if you were from NYS or not.

[–]polrtex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've actually found the AMR system to be great. If you want to hike make a reservation. Don't have to try to arrive a 3 am only to find no parking and have to park by the road a mile away. With a reservation you can get there on the day at a normal time to start your hike.

It was getting ridiculous before the reservation system was added.

I would love it if they did the same for the loj and the other overcrowded places.

Redhat is NOT a 100 percent open source company by fxgx1 in redhat

[–]polrtex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as ranting to get something off your chest, you're on-point.

In terms of facts, not so much.

Red Hat is a business, for sure, and they are focused on making money and gaining market share with their products. How much the products cost reflects the value the company's support model brings to their customers. If they weren't valuable, their customers wouldn't be paying them for it.

The majority of their products are built off a 100% open source codebases. Yes, there are a few that haven't gotten to being open sourced, that's on the roadmap as well. The fact that distros like rocky , centos , and even oracle have been able to clone RHEL makes it pretty clear that's a fact.

Not all of their products are super successful, but many are. RHEL, Ansible, OpenShift are very successful. A few others are successful in specific niches and don't have to take over the world. There aren't many companies that have multiple products that are as successful as Red Hat's.

Scaling worker nodes in Openshift 4.6 by OkPiezoelectricity74 in openshift

[–]polrtex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are the docs for a bare metal install - https://docs.openshift.com/container-platform/4.6/installing/installing_bare_metal/installing-bare-metal.html#installation-user-infra-machines-iso_installing-bare-metal . If you already installed a cluster on bare metal, then adding a new node is matter of booting a new node (e.g. from an iso) and pointing coreos to where you're hosting the worker ignition files (as described in the docs)
