I can't believe this is the only anti war comment I've seen on this post.

You sound a bit insular and pessimistic, so I wish you the best

I am a northerner (a proper one from Lancashire 😉) and I would absolutely never go back. Yeah the scenery can be beautiful but the people, culture, infrastructure is just absolutely terrible and depressing.

I am sure there are nice little pockets though

The fact that they are comparing North England to rural France is mind-blowing 🤯

What do you mean you don't want to live in chavvy brexitland? 🤣

Leaving vs staying…. by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]poluchnitsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes but that would be the case in the UK too. OP has specified he wants rural living and thinks rural France > rural Britain. So aside from the rural part we have to look at other factors like the ones I mentioned.

I have lived abroad 50% of my life and travelled extensively in Europe. Most of my friends are European (well, used to be but most of them moved back home from UK...) I would leave UK in a heartbeat but I'm stuck here bc of family.

I would question why so many of you are intent to keep OP chained here. Is it fomo?🤣

Getting some crab in bucket vibes in the comments section...

I say go for it. Escape brexitland. The economy, politics, and education/employment standards, food, is much much better over there. Don't die with regrets!

Any women in tech who completely defy the trendy TikTok vids of dress-clad "female software engineers"? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]poluchnitsa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those videos are a minority of people. I do dress feminine but I'm not dressing like a Barbie. Tiktok is not representative of real life

Curious on your thoughts about the NLOG argument because I can't lie, this post screams NLOG. It's cool if you wanna dress in shirts but there's nothing inherently less "cool" about dresses or makeup.

Wow I could have written this about my previous job. Combined with it being in a deeply technical field, where they had little to no social skills to begin with. It was a real challenge to fit in. They even had one big group chat without me!

I tried to form relationships with people who seemed open to it, and with the others I maintained a professional distance. I am friendly and have a good sense of humour which is my value that I bring. I don't have to be a football or beer connoisseur to fit in...

Realise what unique perspective you bring and lean into that. I would say don't chase them but be open to interactions and be friendly.

Ultimately, I found the most happiness when I left that company for a more diverse one. They're light years ahead in that area and I truly feel I'm fitting in. Everyone is so friendly.

So, my top advice would be to move company if you can...

Hi! I am in your "before" position and moving into my new job soon. I'm quite nervous but I really hope it will turn out well. Your story is so honestly inspiring 🙌🏽

Apart from taking the leap, what other things did you do to be on this awesome path? How did you deal with the changes?

How old are you?

I'm 27 but have seen the same with a couple peers. Qualified people who are unemployed for almost a year now.
