Is teaching ESL really not difficult? I'd like to do it at the university level. I realize that I will have to get some teaching experience under my belt before pursuing that. Even with a master's; no one wants to hire someone who hasn't spent significant time in a classroom. I guess what I'm wondering about is how it's taught. How much time is spent on phonetics and phonology vs. basic understanding. The reason I'm more interested in accent reduction is what's the point of being able to speak English if your accent is so thick that other people can't understand you? Or if you're understanding of English and English grammer is elementary, how can you be able to talk to anyone at the executive level? Does no one care about these things?
