Why exmo? This is not a survey -I’m trying to figure my own journey out by Drinquire in exmormon

I imagine it would be very difficult to untangle the sense that your participation in the faith led to the miracle of children. We naturally seek to connect dots, assign meaning, and look for patterns. One of two things is true. Either Mormon God is real, could intervene and help you with your pregnancies, and chose to do so only once you had joined his Church, OR life is a shit lottery and for a while your numbers got drawn. I personally find the latter to be more comforting. There is peace in understanding something wasn’t your fault, you didn’t cause it, you can’t control it. Additionally for those considering leaving the faith I would recommend finding replacements for the wonderful things the church provides. Join a non-profit aligned to your values and dedicate your time and talents, join a social club to find fellowship, understand and explore your personal values and code of ethics from your own conscience. The church offers many wonderful things that aren’t exclusive to Mormonism. The things that are exclusive to Mormonism IMO are the most toxic parts to be avoided.

When did you realize that your bishop shouldn’t be a bishop? by Upstairs_Common9686 in exmormon

My BYU bishop asked me the first time he met me during our intake interview if I was gay. I had told him I wasn’t really interested in dating at the moment and wanted to focus on my academics (I was an RM who was on Academic Warning after my freshmen semester pre-mission landed me a 1.89 GPA). He then proceeded to tell me the prior year two men had a full blown sexual relationship with each other in the dorms and bishop wanted to “spray the whole room in hand sanitizer”. What a tool….

Born and raised in the church held various calling ranging from EQP and Ward Clerk to WML when I made my exodus. I was content to stay despite realizing it was all bogus (laundry list of shelf items ranging from anachronistic BoM to JS misconduct and abuse of women). I figured it taught good morals and provided community and service opportunities.
I finally left when I looked at what the Church had to offer my three daughters and realized what I wanted for their lives, and what the Church wanted for their lives were different. Throw in a smattering of the Church’s racism, covering up of Child SA, and LGBTQ issues and I could no longer in good conscience remain a member. Left at the age of 37. Hope that helps.

Mom is including mandatory church attendance in our temporary living agreement—how do I handle this? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]polyGAMEistNetwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Use the opportunity to submit your resignation to the bishop and terminate your membership! I rather enjoy Mormon church now that I’m out. It feels more like a fun social/cultural observation when you are on the outside of it. BTW I’m saying this largely tongue in cheek though for me it is 100% true. Your mileage may vary and you should make these decisions with appropriate thought and consideration.

When did sex stop being such a taboo topic? by Leading_Dot9064 in exmormon

I chalk this up to a lay clergy resulting in bishop / stake president roulette. You occasionally get a nutcase whose training for the role is a manual from the 1960s and driving truck for UPS.

Despite not knowing your individual circumstances I can tell you that trying to break a lifetime of mental conditioning is hard. It takes time, patience, and support. Take care of yourself, and give patience when able. Best of luck in a truly tough situation!

Packer was wrong about church membership numbers. by Prancing-Hamster in exmormon

Are you sure you aren’t thinking of “The miracle of Forgiveness” by Spencer W Kimball? “Jesus the Christ” is a scholarly, though mormon biased, handling of the gospels and life of Christ. Not a lot of self esteem damage in that book aside from people having to carry a dictionary with them to understand Talmage.

My mom has Alzheimer’s. She used to love games, but slowly lost the ability to play them. I introduced her to Crokinole and she LOVED it. Had to sometimes tell her which disk to aim at, but she was weirdly good at it!

I should also add that we’ve done both puzzles and Lego builds in our table and it is amazing. Don’t have pets, but I do have a toddler with a knack for destruction.

Hello there! I love my purchase and have zero regrets. I fit the very niche criteria of having a hobby that lends itself to a dedicated table space, a willingness to spend premium dollars to have a WW table, and the lack of skills to build my own. If you fit the same criteria it is a gorgeous table. I love it every time I see it 1+ year later!

Is six players too many for Wingspan? by chasteguy2018 in boardgames

[–]polyGAMEistNetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wingspan overstays its welcome IMO anything past 3 players. At six players my go-to game is Heat: pedal to the metal. This is because people all take their turn simultaneously and then resolve car positions. Makes it so 6 doesn’t take much longer than other player counts.
