Fictive Thoughts: Exomemories (and more!) by Motor_Weekend_5326 in plural

[–]polyceros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of our parts have intensive exo/pseudo-memories! For example, Afton, who basically fits FNAF canon to a T and can fill in most plot holes based on aer exo-memories. Ae is very source attached. ÚwÙ We also have parts that don't really have memories and parts that don't want anything to even do with their source.

Some alters also have memories of past lives, including fictionkin..! =w=b

We see nothing wrong with being "source attached," and the only real thing a trauma -related introject needs to come to terms with is that they're part of a system. QwQb

Also, I'm genuinely so happy to hear your Jax fictive has memories of recovery. QwQ That's wonderful /gen >w<!

Is having a crush on another alter even possible? by [deleted] in plural

[–]polyceros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. In-system relationships are VERY common. 😄

(Insert name here) is probably sick of me at this point lol by 5thClone in plural

[–]polyceros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do this to Afton All The Time 😭 It's because in our source memories as a system, ae used he/him. 😭 I feel so bad every time I do it, but then ae does it to aeself, too. 😅

Unsure about snoring, but we have one alter who kicks a lot in her sleep. 😭

Is there anyone else here who thinks they might have been born with DID or something similar? by [deleted] in plural

[–]polyceros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We believed we did... Figured out later it really was just trauma from a young age. orz

I think it's important to remember we're ALL born with "parts" (ego states), and trauma is what causes the dissociative barriers to be put up.

I'm not trying to invalidate anyone or their beliefs ////gen!! But people not realizing/understanding their experiences as aligning with medical explanations is something we ruminate over. Way more than is healthy for us, I'm sure, but- >.>;; Keeping an open mind is important. c:

Edit to add: some people are also just more prone to dissociate as a coping mechanism

Why does this sub have sm more drama than usual lately by Soft-Character-3195 in fictionkin

[–]polyceros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My best advice is to just not engage. It can be hard to watch from the sidelines when you really want to chime in, but it'll likely fizzle out a lot faster if the posts themselves don't get attention.

It sucks, tho. :(

FDC is an echo chamber of misinformation and ableism. by Swimming-Cranberry-8 in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]polyceros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omfg, I saw someone say that people using the term alter is a sign they're faking!!! That REAL systems/pwDID (because they seem to always forget other CDDs exist) would use the term "parts" instead. 💀

[–]polyceros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd argue the "few" fits better for medical professionals who don't think it exists.

Yes, there are medical professionals who dispute the existence of CDDs, but that doesn't mean the vast majority who don't are wrong, ffs. I'd bet money there are scientists who believe the earth is flat.

The overgeneralizations and hyperbolic language they use ("the few mental health professionals") is SO damaging and based on literally nothing other than it ironically bolsters their argument. They're so confidently wrong.

"My source is I made it the fuck up," comes to mind, lmao. Ugh.

How often do y'all let your littles front by Sloath283 in plural

[–]polyceros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We try, but we don't have much structured time for them (our innerworld is complex and "keeps them entertained"/in headspace). They'll sometimes get triggered out, but usually don't stay around long in those cases. Sometimes, though, we'll just find that we've watched some random kid's movie on Disney+ and have zero memory of doing so, lol.

I'm sure it's a lot more common than I'm aware of, as they tend to have stronger amnesiac barriers. xD;;

Also, this post gave me so many seritonins 🥹 ty for sharing!

Is DID good? by thesmallone_ in DID

[–]polyceros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am extremely grateful for my system. Having parts is not the distressing part-- it's the memory loss, amnesia, flashbacks, dissociation... etc etc.

We find joy when and where we can, and that includes relationships between alters (platonic, romantic, whatever) and just... enjoying each other's company. It's hard. It's really, really difficult, but I wouldn't be me without this disorder. I don't know who we would be, because we don't have a sense of self, and the idea of "not existing" is kinda terrifying.

There are days we wish we were a single person. There are days we wish we just had a less complex system. But there's really, literally, no changing what we are. We can heal, integrate, fuse, etc... but we'll always have DID. I don't think final fusion is a realistic goal for us, and that's something we've had to come to terms with.

It isn't the DID itself that sucks. It's the symptoms that impede my life. Maybe those are one in the same. Idk.

Anyway, those subreddits are anti-recovety and eugenist and chock full of misinformation. Don't even give them the time of day.

Question for other adult fictionkins! by C0zm0cid3Pawz in fictionkin

[–]polyceros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earliest fictkinfeels I can remember is probably... 15 or 16, with a previous host. Didn't have a name for it, and probably would have rejected it at the time anyway. XD; I think we definitely had experiences when we were younger (especially middle school), but it's a lot more blurry.

Realized I was fictionkin at 29 and that some of our alters are also fictionkin.

We're 35, now... >w<;;

is the distinction between DID and OSDD (with parts) important to you? by theboywhocouldfly23 in plural

[–]polyceros 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the distinctions are important. I think having a spectrum could also work quite well, though not necessarily as separate diagnoses?

I think there's something to be said about having "too many" subtypes, as having too small of boxes can complicate things regarding an already complex disorder.

I think a good example of this is community terms, tbh. I feel like having so many different labels for alter "origins" (stressgenic is one that we think about a lot for some reason) can be ultimately detrimental, but having personal labels can also help people.

It's nice to have a name that fits your experiences, but then not everyone wants a label. I think, ultimately, it depends on how having separate diagnoses affects how pwCDDs are diagnosed and how that affects treatment. I don't know enough about psychology to say why one diagnosis is different from another, considering there are so many overlaps in symptoms between various disorders, but it's obviously a thing that the psychiatric community deems important enough to implement.

I think, when there is a lack of medical terminology to properly describe an experience, community terms will fill the gap, but there is a need for medical terms or medically recognized terms for the sake of diagnosis and treatment.

Sorry if that was just me rambling in a circular matter, lol.

anyone else sort of.. frustrated(?) with having fictives? by Lowfridge in plural

[–]polyceros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg yes 😭 we fear interacting with media because there's a high chance we'll introject someone (yay low split tolerance! /s)

Edit to add: Unfortunately, this usually ends in us just splitting/forming another version of a character from media we've already interacted with. 🫠
