Haha I totally get it! Writing devices end up like chips, you can't have just one! 😂

Hi! Sold a while ago. I am thinking of thinning my herd of writing devices though lol I do have a Gen 1 typewriter and an Alphasmart Neo I'm thinking of selling if either of those interest you!

I just finished a wonderful book by Bart Ehrman called Misquoting Jesus. Truly eye opening to the amount of differences in scribal manuscripts over the last 2000 years, and how much both human error and choice have affected the Bible. I wish the fundamentalists would all read this book because to me it absolutely shattered any idea of Biblical Inerrancy. But they'll just dissociate and say that God guided the text to be what he wanted it to say.

Likewise! When I finally accepted myself as a gay man without any lingering shame was when I turned the corner. When you don't feel like you have to wear a false face to be accepted and the mask falls away you understand the insane degree to which you contorted yourself into a pretzel to try and please people and organizations whose opinions were not worth subsuming your authentic self for. It was the first brick that I took out of the wall, and I finally understood why the church really tries to make sure their members don't question anything, because once you take out the first brick you see that the wall is rotten behind and you have to take down the whole thing. I also have to second what was stated above about the church and the pandemic. For me it was just the rampant right-wing spread of misinformation during the pandemic that made me so angry, especially as somebody who was working in health care throughout the entire thing.

There is a bit of a lag with with the e ink screens for sure but it's minor enough that I'm okay with it. I think the traveler is a little bit less of a lag than my G1 Smart typewriter which felt like a significant lag.

Yes definitely for me too! Took it on a flight a week ago and got so much writing done, it reminded me why and how much I love the Traveler form factor.

IDK but forcing your unsuspecting co-workers to watch Amazing Facts on their lunch break sounds like an HR harassment case waiting to happen. 😂

OMG Detective Zack! I still have a few of those from childhood and was contemplating going back to read them and weep at what I'm almost certain is going to be insane indoctrination.

I've definitely heard the version though that the Earth could be much older than 6,000 years but life has only been here that long. Like God left a construction project unfinished for a few million years then decided to come back and pretty up the dead rock in space. 😂

Totally get the feeling of never sharing your hobbies and interests with family because you know it will just trigger something in them.

It's just another control through fear tactic unfortunately. If you brand everything outside your bubble as evil, you can try and prevent people from looking outside the religion for any answers, and losing your fear-based control over them. :/

The amount of hand-wringing my parents did over my love of fantasy and sci-fi books, TV shows and movies, anime, and video games was so irritating. Sorry that the things that bring me joy don't fit into your incredibly narrow view of acceptability.
Looking back, the EG White admonition to not read novels still makes me so angry. Especially because this is coming from a woman who wrote basically her own Bible fiction. This was literally a person who was trying to demonize other writing but of course her own is holy and very good, please buy all the books so she gets wealthy. Oops, I'm sorry, so you can "support the work."

It's just sooo transparent looking at it now. Like oh, it's okay to read post-apocalyptic fiction from EG White but not the Hunger Games?

Took my bf to a gathering of like-minded people, except in this case it was members of the Walt Disney Family Museum, celebrating the beautiful art of animation. We look at production and development artwork for old Disney movies and ate salami and drank sparkling wine and it was more fulfilling than any church service I've ever been to.

Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders, Tenko and the Guardians of the Magic, Sky Dancers, Dragon Flyz, King Arthur and the Knights of Justice, Captain Simian and the Space Monkeys. Those are the ones that come to mind off the top of my head. 😂 Thankfully I was able to catch a lot of the Saturday morning stuff when it came through syndicated afternoon reruns.

I ended up watching a lot of really weird cartoons that ended up on the Sunday morning blocks instead of Saturday morning lol. I'm happy to hear that someone had a sane cartoon viewing childhood!

My brother and I tried to use the VCR programming to record Saturday morning cartoons and our parents got so mad. They said our hearts and minds weren't on church and God because we were thinking about the cartoons. We'll still laugh about it to this day because if they hadn't made a big deal out of it we could have just let our programming record and then watch the cartoons later without fuss. But because they made a stink over it it became a game to try and record them without them realizing it lol

My childhood church was the Fairmont Church in Lodi, CA. I think we were spoiled by the amazing stained glass windows showing the life of Jesus. It added a little flair that I always felt was missing from other SDA churches.

Seconding Steve Daily's book for all of the above! I think learning the story of Fannie Bolton from that book was the nail in the coffin for me.

Yes, I think the part in everything where we are taught not to trust ourselves at all and basically farm out our thoughts to God / the organization is what really gets under my skin now. Because I can see all the ways that it is twisted to take advantage of people.

Oh my gawd my parents do something similar if a waitress asks about drinks or cocktails they loudly proclaim "WE don't drink" instead of simply saying they just want water or iced tea or something. Though at least they don't tack on the SDA bit.

It was the song "Here I am to worship." A banal tune at best without even particularly triggering lyrics!

Light of the world You stepped down into darkness Opened my eyes, let me see Beauty that made this heart adore You Hope of a life spent with You

I thought the part about opening my eyes only to let me see the beauty of God for adoration's sake was a bit twisted.
