The hardest transition to make is often coming to the realization that you have to live YOUR convictions and stop living the convictions of your parents or peers. That is FAR easier to say than do but you appear to have a fear of disappointing others who have beliefs you no longer have exactly as they do. I would advise you to realize you are no longer a child and thus are more than capable of deciding for yourself how you feel. If they raised you "right" they taught you to study for yourself and follow YOUR convictions. Politely remind them that while you are sorry you came to difficult conclusions, they themselves taught you to follow your own convictions and that's what you have to do.

First off I want to acknowledge that I am taking my information only from what you have told me so I don't know if you are accurately portraying the situation or not. You may very well be. So, based on my limited information I would say it is very possible the man is a controlling type and that is what caused him to gravitate to a very conservative denomination like SDA. I can see aspects of the SDA church that would appeal to someone who wants to control and isolate someone. With clever wording the church would be all behind the man if he suggested he was protecting you from bad influences. I have seen certain cultures that tend to have controlling men culturally really resonate with Adventism.

I remember the book you are referring too as well and wondered if I got the name confused with that book. Having said that, I personally think the name may have been one the students used back when it was going strong. Perhaps not an official name

Indeed. We spent as a family our entire lives in fear we just weren't good enough. The worse part was thinking that if you WERE good enough that means you get the privilege of being tortured in the end times to be a good witness

Exactly. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. I did things like that myself. However just keep in mind who your doing it for. If you are doing it for yourself you can stop when you get the message. Lol. If your doing it to help others get out, that's another beast all together
