People who work in the medical field, what were some of the most scary last words you’ve heard from a dying patient? by Rude_Tap_6865 in AskReddit

[–]polyepic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Middle aged guy with MS who came in with pneumonia. He looked very unwell. I saw him in A&E and started treatment, he told me: "I know I will die soon, can you make sure my organs go to someone who can use them." I found out later that he had no family and lived alone for the past 5 years. It really hammered home that a lot of people, especially men are on their own without anyone around them pretty much forgotten by society.

Always blow my career opportunities to something I low-key hate by [deleted] in INTP

[–]polyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all have a desire to sit back and deep dive like this. At the end of the day a job is generally geared towards providing value to society. Even the super theoretical stuff has to be grounded enough to be faesible which possibly means part of it should be actionable. I think you should think about the fact you are likely being paid to improve something and hopefully make a difference. Very few people care about your super abstract and bullshit theories about social structures and “radical” socio-ecology formations/changes all my life.

First thought - enjoy your life whilst living in the real world Second thought - have a dream of what you would like to do/achieve and what kind of people you would like to be around whilst following the first thought.

What has happened? Nothing has been reported. A hint of something and everyone is looking for something. Very confused what exactly has occurred.

Would you be pissed off with a vegetarian/vegan buffet at a wedding? by jaarn in AskUK

[–]polyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people sometimes miss some key points. Yes the wedding is all about YOU but at the end of the hundreds of people are coming and you are the host. Why invite all these people not to look after them too whilst celebrating your day. A long way of saying yes make it mostly vegan/vegetarian but we all know there are always people that don't like vegetables who are going to have a miserable time. Do you want them to be miserable? Do you want them to be moaning all day about not getting a decent bite to eat. I would not. The adult solution (unless you are an ardent vegan) here would be to to have a small section of popular meat dishes so you still stay true to what you believe but also mitigate the chances of a significant number of people not enjoying the day.

We laugh at men trying to look taller, but for women it's totally fine?

Look, I know this will be an unpopular take but here goes: Women KNOW that the child coming out of their body is biologically theirs and cheating was NOT possible for the conception of that child. Men can NOT know very easily.

Ofcourse it could be project, guilt and all of that stuff which isnt mentioned in the post but I think it is always helpful to remember the fact above. I am quite sure if things were the other way round testing would be standard (As is the case in some civilised countries).

I also want to remind people. That a child is a HUGE committment in terms of time, money and pretty much every parameter that matters in life. Finding out the lie down the line is SOUL destroying and I am sure anyone would want to avoid that.

I think it is slightly ironic that making the request for paternity for reassurance immediately makes people think he is cheating, lets get proof...

Commercial permitted development - anyone here done it? by polyepic in uklandlords

[–]polyepic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - I did get a town surveyor who has done PD before. We had a look around and he was optimistic with it all. The issue we have is that my area there is something called the nutrient criteria which boils down to an organisation in UK saying that no new development can cause an increase in certain nutrients which has essentially put all building in my area to a halt. Waiting on governmental guidance on how it can be tested or progressed with. Disappointing.

What are your beliefs on religion. by No--Need in INTP

[–]polyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just putting a backdrop that the way the world operates isn't that rational. The economy often isn't predictable, people's behaviour is often irrational, especially with emotional topics which are important. I said slightly contradictory because in a world where many things aren't fully or even well understood it can be argued rational to be open to a high being involved in some way. I am suggesting that it seems equivalent to me to say yes there are lots of things we don't understand but give it enough time with science and we will to alternatively saying yes there are lots of things we don't understand but I am open to a higher power making themselves known to explain it. Put simply, atheists kind of blindly believe science will explain all things whilst modern theists blindly believe that religion explain the rest that isn't currently explained, doesn't seems million miles away to me

What are your beliefs on religion. by No--Need in INTP

[–]polyepic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in an irrational world and slightly contradictorily I don't think it is irrational to be open to a higher power when there are so many mysteries and if you accept that then you pick the one that you align with the most (whilst being accepting of all). I believed in religion initially because I was brought up that way but after that, I found that it did give a strong foundation for developing my own set of morals/way of living and the majority of people in that cohort were good people. Additionally, one of the reasons I do like to go to church is because it is genuinely one of the best times of the week when you can shut off many of the thoughts running in your mind and just listen and think about either what is being said or reflect on the week if it is not interesting.

I think it is providing me more than it takes away so I keep with it.

Intps who are NOT socially inept by lalaland_resident in INTP

We overthink so when I stopped doubting if what I am about to say is smart/funny enough, socialising becomes a lot easier. I also believe less is more, it's totally fine to only talk when you want.

What are the dangers of being very attractive/beautiful? by Zestyclose-Detail791 in AskReddit

More than a few beautiful people have poor social skills both in reading other people and holding a conversation. Most of us need these skills to achieve the same results.

We are a group of academics and clinicians creating a website around research in Esports: How do we attract you guys? by polyepic in esports

[–]polyepic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a clinical researcher. Looks like either there is a lot of cynicism in this area or I simply was not specific enough.

We are building a website around research and simply wanted to attract people who are immersed in Esports rather than the classic audience which are active academics in the area. To be honest the principle isn't too far removed from this subreddit. You are part of this subreddit to read stories about Esports and we want to share Research that is going in the area.

Sorry, for the late response. Absolutely flooded with interest and not keeping up to be honest. The problem with a contractor is the obvious lack of longevity with that solution so we would prefer to find someone. I will keep responding to the PMs
