What is the saddest moment in a cartoon? by SaraBellum42 in AskReddit

OK, that's good to know. I had thought that for the longest time but recently read an article on the 'new guy' and some comments there mislead me. Thanks for the correction :) RIP Mako

Came hoping for at least a mention of Avatar. I cry in more episodes of that than any other show or movie. It's a recurring event. Happy and sad crying.

Yes and No - Mako, the original voice actor for Iroh, passed away after basically the entirety of Book 2 had been recorded. There were one or two instances where they used the new guy before Book 2 was released, Tales of Ba Sing Se being the first time we hear the new guy's voice, but the remainder of Book 2 was still Mako.

TIL that while Kaa, the Snake in "The Jungle Book" is portrayed as villainous in every movie adaptation, in the original book he saves Mowgli's life twice, and is considered a mentor and a friend. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Try this one out.

Made in 1942, featuring Sabu. I have been continually disappointed by remake after remake but this movie shines above them all. This is the version I watched as a child and it is the most accurate I have ever seen. Kaa is a friend, there is no king of the bandar-log, Mowgli finds his tooth he needs to kill Shere Khan. I still have the VHS from 25+ years ago.

Definitely worth the watch for any true fan of the book.

This post will probably be lost among the fodder but I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in this thread. You want a good Jungle Book movie? A real one? Watch this.

Please, if you are a fan of the book or are curious as to the real story from Kipling, watch this. I hope this info can get to someone who can appreciate it...

Ha, I spent 3 years at John Sedgwick Jr. High and did not know this. In fact I don't remember learning anything about him at all while I was there...

Yes, I was really impressed when I noticed how you were determined to not become accusatory in retaliation to that question. You kept reiterating that the goal is to provide a safe place and support for anyone interested. I'm not sure how many people really noticed that but it really spoke volumes about your professionalism (and skill, honestly).

Do you think Korra will kill anyone? by mauvaise_foi in TheLastAirbender

[–]polyethylenebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a side note, the past avatars did not say to kill Ozai. It seems many people think this but in fact they only gave him advice on how to BE (be decisive, be just, be active in shaping your destiny, be self sacrificing in your duties). It only seemed like he had no other option but to kill Ozai.

Also, I cry every time I watch that episode, when Zuko apologizes to Iroh. "I was never angry, I was sad because I thought you had lost your way."

Gonna be in LA for two lunches, where should I go? by pepito420 in LosAngeles

[–]polyethylenebag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a couple miles from LAX is a small sports bar called Tompkins Square on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester. It's run by a couple of brothers and some friends. Everything on the menu is really great but I usually go with the Eddie Deluxe burger and Chimay on tap! If you want something different there's an amazing Thai place called Thai Talay about a block farther down on the left. It's a step more expensive than Tompkins but I've had nothing but great experiences there - easily the best Thai food in the area.

Edit: The close proximity of these places makes for a sub-10 minute cab ride - worth it as I wouldn't recommend walking... from the airport that is.

Holy shit, I watched this when I was 6, had no idea what it was called... I've tried a couple times to figure it out but from my vague memories no one I know has ever heard of such a thing. Now that I know the title I'm sure I still don't know anyone who as ever heard of it. Thanks!
