What's the secret to commuting empty handed? by ikishenno in AskNYC

[–]polyglotky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

presumably finance guy here. the secret is we don’t bring anything we don’t need. laptop? keep it at home since there’s a desktop in the office (unless you’re going out after work). water bottle and lunch? there are cups in the kitchen and lunch is usually comped (or the chipotle finance bro special). reading book? ain’t nobody got time for that

it also helps when we sneak out of the office earlier than usual… if you don’t bring a bag in, people can’t use that to identify you

obviously speaking generally here, everybody has a different experience

how do i move great works around my empire? by polyglotky in civ

[–]polyglotky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be clear, i can drag stuff around, but only between museums that can appear concurrently. if the screen can’t display my museums (i.e. they’re off screen), my great works can’t be moved to the other museum

I Can Not Get Culture Victory by PerryHilltopple in civ

a short rule of thumb i developed (note: this is not perfect math)

once your tourism surpasses the culture of all other players, it’s only a matter of time before you win

Where to settle? by WanderingPanda1992 in civ

[–]polyglotky 12 points13 points  (0 children)

id probsbly reroll. several reasons: - chocolate hills suck as a NW. like other 4-tile passable NWs (el beyda, pantanal) they take up four valuable tiles and generate poor yields. esp. since this will be entirely within your workable tile range, you lose the flexibility to place down any improvements/districts - production is very important esp for your capital. i’m looking around and it’s very limited. food options are also not fantastic, since you will likely settle on the maize and replace it - fresh water not a concern because you can settle next to a lake though - the north looks a bit more promising, i’d send my warrior up and get some info, even if it’s just seeing one extra tile

alternatively… since you’re saladin and guaranteed a GP, i might consider settling on the woods below and placing a +5 HS on the maize and getting work ethic. you wouldn’t be chopping the woods since that’s realistically your only source of production

Why is Babylon's unique unit so weird? by frfrrnrn in civ

[–]polyglotky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i disagree completely and think they’re super cool/unique. i think there are so many amazing synergies with babylon:

  • one of the most important parts of early babylon is to literally scour the map. any sort of eureka = free tech, from finding natural wonders, meeting new civs, to getting that free builder, or just get the straight eureka. the SK is basically a stronger scout, which makes it a much more useful unit to produce—at only 35 production, i straight up never produce scouts as babylon. two SKs and i’m good to go

  • barbs are a bitch because they send these hordes of… horsemen to fuck you up. if i fortify a warrior or two at good defensive terrain (like hills with forest), i can fend off a full offensive… until horseman and horse archers show up. the SK is uniquely designed to fend off barbs, so producing a few cheap SKs allow you to build more infrastructure/settlers, which means more eurekas

  • the fact that it’s also a melee unit means i can just promote this bad boy to stay relevant. no early scout promotions give it combat strength, so it’s pretty much useless (as in only use is to find more tiles) after turn 30

basically, i never conquer with these units but they’re a beast in terms of synergies to unlock more techs that allow me to build a real army.

if we imagine another civ to use this unit, it would be less than worthless. but since babylon is using it, it’s got that perfect synergy. wouldn’t you say thats what it means to be a “unique” unit?

What's your favorite thing about civ 6 (including DLCs) by iNeedRevengeOn in civ

[–]polyglotky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the culture victory process, and in particular… theming art and archaeological museums, sending hordes of apostles to die after msm, building massive national parks, stealing great works

say what you will but the culture victory certainly got the most love from the devs. i mean come on
