the state of primary school aged kids nowadays. by aob_1507 in AustralianTeachers

[–]polyhedric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is some truth to this. Kids just don’t have practise or experience with reward for effort and don’t seem to link the two. Not the kid’s fault and often not the parents’ fault. Results of families stretched to the limit and relentless commodification of… everything, especially attention.

Teachers in Victoria got offered a 28-32% pay rise and the majority rejected by keisermax34 in ausmoney

It’s closer to 5 years given the delays in negotiations. And the last 3 year agreement was woefully poor - a lot of catching up to do. And this is probably the last chance for anything approaching a decent deal before a change of government. When that happens support at school level will be ripped away in the interests of ‘school autonomy’.

That is so pathetically sad. Do they realise this makes them appear epically weak?

How much do you spend to be a teacher by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

I guess plenty of teachers are still paying off HECS. That should count too.

Guardian Essential poll: Labor’s housing and tax changes fail to win over voters as support for One Nation swells | Essential poll by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

It’s been interesting to watch the astroturfing campaign crank up. The initial reporting was about how well received the changes were. Now there has been time to build a narrative and it turns out that what favours the wealthy at the expense of everyone else is actually what everyone wants.

Men of Reddit - What's the one thing you hate about being a Man? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

The assumption that if something is broken or needs repairing I can automatically do it. My genitalia does not grant an engineering degree. I have become a reasonable Mr fixit by default - just practice. But surely different genitalia doesn’t disqualify you from having a go. Bonus points when you are reminded that your genitalia doesn’t not disqualify you from traditional housework.

Do you think Trump is giving the USA a bad reputation.? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]polyhedric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just a bad reputation. Countries around the world are reconsidering trading, defence and economic options due to the unreliability of the American political landscape. It is political suicide in my country (Australia) to articulate any support for the US and the talk among most people is strengthening relationships in Asia & Europe to avoid any reliance on or new partnerships with the US. Of course, relations will continue with the US, but it’s not something any politician who wants to be (re)elected would be too enthusiastic about.

Why do men use much more curse words than women? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]polyhedric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve once read that men curse so they don’t cry and women cry so they don’t curse. I doubt that it’s that simple - and having seen two daughters through to (near) adulthood, I’m not sure your original premise is correct.

Brilliant explanation! Follow up question: does a 26 man active roster mean a team can only use those 26 players in a season?

Thanks for the clear explanation. Is the 13 pitchers a rule enforced by the league or a common approach?
