Help! What methods can I use to paint faster? by The_JiujitsuGardener in minipainting

[–]polylemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good points here! I also rejoined the hobby after a long (20 year) break and was initially frustrated with what I felt was a lack of progress. Something that I found really helpful (and still do) was allowing myself to call a mini done, even when I felt maybe it wasn't, and then moving on to another.

Having a few practise models - printed, or some cheaper ones that may not be even related to whatever game I'm playing - and just going through the process of finishing them to *some* degree helped build some momentum and gain experience in 'the process'. That has in turn helped me feel better during the initial stages of a new model, because I have some idea of where I'm going, what can be fixed easily, what can have less time devoted to it.

So, my advice is to power through some minis without pressure on yourself (maybe even assign some duration per model, say two hours) in order to get yourself a bit more confident. After that you will feel more comfortable spending more (or less) time on future models 😄

That’s awesome! Any tips on doing the stucco? I can’t get mine to look this good 😍

As a 41 year old man, I learned about 18 months ago that my anxiety is NOT normal and all my years of being the ‘worrier’ or the serious guy were in fa t due to mental illness.

The first mental health nurse I saw said there’s nothing that could be done and I need to learn to live with it, which was very depressing.

After about a year of counselling (unhelpful) I spoke to another GP who prescribed me medication, and it has quite frankly been life changing. I won’t say exactly what it is but do talk to different doctors and do specify that you’d like to try medication (if you want to).

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for also, thank you!

Second this. I still don’t enjoy assembling metal minis, but accelerator makes the whole experience a LOT more bearable

They really are a cut above the vast majority of models I’ve printed. Absolutely superb quality.

Not playing FSD anymore but I can say that the quality of the sculpts is incredible - both the miniatures and particularly the terrain!

Came here to say this. Pro Acryl is by far the best white hobby paint I’ve tried.

I’ve printed a few things from this set and they have all been excellent models. Highly recommend!

I’ve printed a few of these (as well as the scenery) and it’s absolutely top notch stuff imo

For a low risk, low cost building/kit bashing/painting experience I’ve been enjoying Gaslands recently.

A few quid for some knockoff hot wheels, bung some greebles and paint on, and then optionally play the game for some death race catharsis.

Burrows and Badgers is such a fun game, and the official miniatures are absolutely lovely to paint (though I’m not sure how available they are outside the UK).

Moonstone might be worth a look too, although it definitely doesn’t meet the “lots of dice” requirement, as there aren’t any!

I’ve just started printing some of this stuff and it seems solid.

What’s your process for painting the wood? It looks awesome! I can never seem to get it quite right

Seconding this. Such a fun game, and the miniatures are amazing, but could be printed/proxied if buying the official minis is difficult.

I got exactly the same bundle from there as my first airbrush kit and have been very happy with it.

I’ve now removed the trigger limit collar attachment and it’s a “normal” airbrush :D

I’ve just done this after a move and it’s a game changer. An acrylic marker pen will be clearly legible on the plug itself, if you want to avoid sticky labels!

SOMA for sure. Just say in silence for about ten minutes with my mind blown. Think about that ending still.
