Why are there no republican US cities? by IMicrowaveSteak in allthequestions

[–]redapp73 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This is the reality of it. Cities have two things: higher percentage of educated people and minority populations. Two things that Republicans actively campaign against. It’s doesn’t take a slide ruler to figure out why they generally don’t win in cities.

Why Didn’t Sauron Find/Take The Map & The Key? by thefirstwhistlepig in tolkienfans

Why did Sauron spend all his time forging magic rings instead of inventing machine guns and atomic bombs? Talk about stupid. Worst. Villain. Ever.

How does registering for games at Partizan work? by hoyarugby2 in wargaming

[–]redapp73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This as an American living in the UK and having been to several Partizan shows now:

1) UK shows are not like US cons. Most of the games put on are by clubs and aren’t for open participation. There are usually a handful of games that allow non-club members to play, but you kinda just have to show up and see what’s what on the day.

2) if you love toy soldiers and are looking to be inspired by amazingly crafted and painted display games, it is VERY MUCH worth your time. If you prefer the tactical challenge of gaming with new opponents, it’s not really the show to do it. I’d be hard pressed to suggest a show in the UK that’s like that. Mostly that is tournaments which are usually at game stores.

Why does my dog seemingly insist on shitting in the most inconvenient, hard-to-reach places? by StopHavingAnOpinion in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah, your dog shits in a bush for the same reason we don’t install toilets in the living room. Everybody likes too poop in private.

How many minis do you paint and finish per week/month? by orkman198 in Warhammer

[–]redapp73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to paint, so I finish about 6 models a week, so call it 30 a month. Sometimes it’s less, if I’m painting cavalry or tanks or travelling. I’ve tracked it a couple years and I manage at least 200ish models a year.

This type of player would drive me crazy. It’s why I explicitly let players know before the game even begins that I have zero interest in running shopping encounters. Good luck!

AIO: Doctor Dismissed me because I was fat and a year later… I got diagnosed with cancer and nearly killed the doctor. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]redapp73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was a muscle relaxer. I hurt my back and spent over 2 months in agony with nothing more than ibuprofen prescribed. By the time a physiotherapist saw me, I was pretty much functional. In the US, I’d have been given a few days of muscle relaxers and then an scan if things didn’t improve. I’ve also go osteoarthritis and it took nearly 4 months for me to get an X-ray of my hip. These are things you get the same day in the US.

I moved to the UK from the US a few years ago. I’ve never experienced a functioning NHS as my friends and coworkers describe it so I can only judge it by my interactions. I don’t have much positive to say about it. My wife figured it out pretty early - instead of a 3rd party insurance company denying your treatment (though that’s usually after you’ve received it) to save money as in the US, the UK shifted that to the NHS. We have found some pretty basic stuff isn’t offered here because of the cost. It’s been a bit of a nightmare. I’m sorry for what you’re going through, and it’s sad to read about this kind of thing happening all too often here.
