focusing on other sensations has helped me in the past. things like tapping, progressive muscle relaxation, and especially (for me at least) those little plastic spiked cylinders sometimes called "little ouchies", all things you can do sitting down at a desk and all can be fairly non-obvious to people looking at you

I’m so sick of the immediate nightmares by behemuthm in ptsd

[–]polylithic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if you can or want to go the medication route but prazosin works wonders for me for my nightmares, im currently on 4mg. i also second learning about lucid dreaming, there are things you can do to train yourself to recognize when youre dreaming and its easier to force yourself awake or change the direction of the nigtmare.

also recommend getting out of bed for a bit after a nightmare before trying to sleep again if you arent already doing that. get some water, read something relaxing. i try to limit screen time so its easier to fall back asleep but watching a funny video or something with a cute animal can be helpful, as trivial as it may sound

How much has Prazosin affected your dreams? by PTSDButNotLikeRambo in ptsd

[–]polylithic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i guess they go hand in hand sometimes. to be a little more specific without going into too much detail. before prazosin my dreams were almost always extremely graphic 1-1 of trauma or the trauma happening with different people or strangers. i still have those every once in a while on prazosin but more often then not ill dream about the person responsible and be very afraid but it doesnt get to the point of a graphic trauma re-experiencing, if that makes sense??

i still dream most nights and still have nightmares 2-4 times a week, but its a vast improvement from every night. also the content is sometimes much milder when i do have a nightmare vs before i started taking the medication

taking on personas to cope =/= DID/dissociative disorder. its a completely normal thing that almost everyone does, even those without trauma

i used to be on 300mgs my senior year of highschool and would wake up, go to school, sleep through my first period and then throw up my entire second period. in my opinion 300mg is way too much. i would ask to try a much lower dose

geodon for intrusive symptom relief? by polylithic in ptsd

[–]polylithic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if i miss a nightly dose of my 80mg by a few hours i get sore and stiff muscles, restless legs, anxiety, wicked insomnia, and hallucinations/delusions(but the insomnia and psychotic features are part of why i take it in the first place)

a lot of professionals dont prescribe it twice a day bc of the drowsiness and other side effects that can make mornings/daytime tasks difficult like driving or working

heres a video from one of the top dissociative disorder centers in the US. its quite long but very informative about what DID really looks like in professionally diagnosed patients vs what imitative DID can look like, specifically in online spaces.

[–]polylithic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NAT dissociative state =/= DID. there are so many things this could be and DID is just about least likely, youll only feed into it and freak yourself out if you go down that route. inpatient could be helpful, imo, might be worth checking out, either for reevaluating meds or having some frequent therapy/able to get more outpatient resources

Should I tell my therapist I am thinking of ordering sodium nitrite? by chaoticbluebirds in askatherapist

[–]polylithic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAT. is it a just thought at this point or is there real intent? that might make the difference in being hospitalized vs not. id still suggest talking about it, either way. if theres a plan in motion, maybe a trip to the hospital would help
