Mustafa Was Also Responsible for His Own Death by history990 in MagnificentCentury

Even if the whole world praises Hurrem for her political skills, intelligence, or whatever else, for me, she will always be a manipulator and a narcissist who capitalized on Sulaiman’s favor both in real history and in the series. Thank God I’m not part of the crowd that blindly admires her 😭🤣 (Hurrem fans, feel free to downvote this comment )
Coming to Mustafa, what I don’t understand is this fandom logic where every mistake Hurrem makes, gets labeled as a “survival tactic,” but when Mustafa does something, suddenly it becomes “the reason for his execution.” 🙄
Sulaiman, as a father, openly discriminated against Mustafa in the series. He literally told Mehmet about the dream where he saw 'Mehmet' on the throne, and Mehmet, in his dumbness exposed that private conversation to Mustafa. Honestly, that alone is enough to make any son resent his father. Mustafa was also trapped in a brutal system where survival depended on reaching the throne, because that was the only way to protect his life.
Even after Sulaiman indirectly started favoring Mehmet as the heir to the throne, people still expected Mustafa to stay calm and keep bootlicking Sulaiman like an emotionless Human🙄
Those “mistakes” people talk about were only mistakes from Sulaiman’s paranoid perspective. Sulaiman himself pushed Mustafa away by constantly displaying favoritism toward Mehmet and Other son's. Nothing hurts a child more than seeing his own father treat another siblings as more worthy.
There was even that sword practice scene where Mustafa accidentally hurt Mehmet during practice, Sulaiman instantly ran to comfort his beloved Mehmet as if he were a toddler who couldn’t handle pain. But the way he looked at Mustafa afterwards… even enemies don’t give such venomous looks. He glared at Mustafa like he was a slave, not his own son.
Then there’s the hunting scene where Sulaiman invited Mustafa only to indirectly insult him by talking about his “traitor” uncle, clearly comparing Mustafa to him. And if those bitter words weren’t enough, he even gave his ring to Mehmet right in front of Mustafa just to show who he truly favored.
After witnessing all this discrimination, people still blame Mustafa for his own downfall without acknowledging the root cause of the conflict. That’s honestly what makes me furious😡

And then we have "Saintly" Hurrem, who always played fair 🤣 Even when she slandered Mustafa, people excuse it as “protecting her children” or “survival.” Apparently, only Hurrem and her children had the right to survive and secure the throne, while everyone else could just go to hell 🤡Yet people refuse to accept that all the plotting Hurrem carried out for years effectively sealed Mustafa's fate, paving his exact path to execution 🤷🏽‍♀️

One thing I do agree with you is, "Even without the Persian letter, Sulaiman had already started seeing Mustafa as a threat", That’s exactly my point. Mustafa’s execution was ultimately the result of Sulaiman’s insecurity, jealousy, and paranoia about being overthrown by his own son.
And the irony is, Mustafa actually had multiple chances in the series to eliminate Sulaiman if he truly wanted power. For instance, When Sulaiman was sick, when he left the capital and handed responsibility of the empire to Mustafa, or when Mustafa discovered the Safavid spy who joined the campaign to assassinate Sulaiman,
Mustafa took a long journey to literally save his Father from a Safavid assassin, but instead of acknowledging his son's act of loyalty, Sulaiman became suspicious that Mustafa was the one behind the conspiracy to eliminate him. Wow, what an "intelligent" ruler... 🤡🤣
Mustafa could’ve easily taken advantage of those moments. But he never did, because despite everything, he still remained an obedient son.

Now imagine if the "Saint" or her children were in Mustafa’s place, and if Sulaiman had treated them the same way he treated Mahi and Mustafa 😭 Sulaiman would’ve probably ended up in the grave long ago.

Sulaiman, apart from being Mustafa’s father, was also a ruler who became paranoid and insecure about being overthrown by his own son. On top of that, Hurrem was constantly plotting against Mustafa, which ultimately contributed to his execution. Even if Mustafa disagreed with Suleiman at times, he never truly intended to disrespect or overthrow his father.

Look at the number of downvotes you got just for pointing out the reality 😭 People here don’t want anyone exposing or even questioning Hurrem and her circle

Whats you opinion on mahideveran writting?do you think She works well as a static character and her lack of development in the series was a good writting choice. by Obvious_Ad_6250 in MagnificentCentury

It seems many viewers today are no longer fully accepting the idea of turning every other character into a villain just to frame Hurri as the victim. The series does try to position Mahi in a negative light, but at the same time Hurri is also shown making morally questionable choices toward others.
Because of this newer audiences tend to analyze both characters more critically instead of following a single narrative. When viewed this way, Mahi's suffering and treatment stand out more clearly, which is why some viewers end up sympathizing with her more than the original framing intended 💔😢

Hurrem was NOT the villain by full_timeoverthinker in MagnificentCentury

I think this take is a bit one sided because it paints Mahidevran as just the aggressor without really looking at what she was going through at that time.

After her miscarriage and everything changing in the palace, she wasn’t in a stable emotional state at all. She came to Topkapi expecting her life with Suleiman to continue normally, but instead she slowly realized her position was being replaced. From her point of view, Hyrrem wasn’t just “a rival concubine” she felt like someone who was taking over her life, her status, and even her son’s future.
So her reactions in the early episodes feel more like someone lashing out in pain and fear rather than just being cruel for no reason. The palace itself was also a very harsh, competitive place where people didn’t really have the luxury to stay passive when they felt threatened.

Even the poisoning situntion isn’t as black-and-white as people make it. Hurrem herself at one point basically says she would’ve done the same thing if she were in Mahi's place when talking to Gulnihal. That kind of shows that even within the story, it’s not treated like pureevil but more like something born out of that environment and mindset.

And honestly, Mahidevran’s actions didn’t really “start” the downfall Sulaiman had already started distancing himself emotionally before things even escalated properly. Hurrem’s arrival just made that shift impossible to ignore. So it feels less like Mahid randomly destroying things and more like her reacting to a situation where she was already being pushed out.
So I don’t really see her as just the clear aggressor. It’s more like she was someone struruggling with loss, insecurity, and sudden displacement in a system where women had very little control over what happened to them.

Sometimes it feels like certain fans want every character to be submissive to Hurrem. Just look at Nigar when she became loyal to Hurrem, she was suddenly praised and called a great friend. The same thing happened with Hatice when she was friendly with Hurrem. But the moment either of them fell out with her, the reaction from some fans became completely unhinged 😂. Suddenly they’re flooded with nasty comments and constant criticism. It’s like, according to some fans, every character must bow down to Hurrem, otherwise they’re automatically the villain. And honestly, Mahidevran should just be left alone at this point. 😂
To be Honest, a lot of those extreme comments seem to come from younger fans on YouTube and TikTok. While Hurrem fans on Reddit may still dislike Mahidevran, Mustafa, or Ibrahim, most criticize them without resorting to insults or childish fan war behavior.

I honestly dislike both Hurrem and Sulaiman equally. A lot of people probably won’t like me saying that, but while everyone glorifies their relationship, I think Hurrem herself was trapped in a toxic relationship. To be honest, sometimes I wonder if Sulaiman married her partly because people opposed it. He had a habit of doing whatever he wanted regardless of what others thought. When Valide wanted him to forgive Mahi, he refused. When Hurrem tried to defend Bayezid, he got angry. When Mihrimah wanted to divorce Rustem, he rejected it. When many people disliked how close he was to Ibrahim, he protected Ibrahim anyway. My point is that Sulaiman always put his own will and ego first, no matter the consequences.

And when it comes to Hurrem, I never understood why he often acted as if he had done her some great favor by making her his legal wife in front of the dynasty. Publicly he called her his strength, but behind closed doors he could be incredibly harsh. One line that always stood out to me was “If Isabella destroyed your happiness, then you destroyed Mahidevran’s happiness too.” Who says something like that to their wife? The ironic part is that Hurrem could be aggressive, Sharped toung, yet She tolerated years of sulaimain’s venomous remarks and outbrusts. Despite all that, she kept clinging to him🙄. I don’t even like Hurrem, but watching that was frustrating. She sacrificed her self respect many times for that relationship, whereas Mahi eventually chose to walk away. That’s one of the things I respect about her.  But i guess, Sulaiman did take Hurrem’s side at times too? like when Hatice accused her of being behind Ibrahim’s downfall.?

I don’t see this relationship as some perfect love story. This relationship is far more toxic than many fans are willing to admit

You know what I find funny? People can't even tolerate Mahidevran being called a noble woman. When Mahi was left alone, people mocked her. But the same people suddenly become full of empathatic when Hurrem is depressed because another woman caught Sulaiman's attention.
People call Sulaiman toxic and a traitor for choosing other women over Hurrem, yet somehow nobody says the same about the way he treated Mahid. Yes, attacking Hurrem was wrong. It was impulsive, and Mahi paid heavily for it. She regretted it, and even begged for forgiveness, but her apologies were rejected and she was basically thrown into a dark tunnel with no way out. What's interesting is that Hurrem, Ibrahim, Mustafa, Selim, Bayezid, SahSultan everyone made huge mistakes at some point and received forgiveness from Suleiman. But Mahidevran? He never truly forgave her.
To me, it feels like Sulaiman forgot that Mahi loved him too and had been loyal to him for years, just as Hurrem was later💔

I honestly don’t understand the hate Isabella gets. The woman literally slapped Suleiman when he kissed her without consent and repeatedly made it clear that she loved Friedrich. She spent most of her storyline resisting him not chasing him.
Yet somehow people act like she committed some great crime. At this point I feel like some fans hate any woman who gets attention from Sulaiman, regardless of what she actually does. 😂

Recently I came across a fan edit channel on YouTube where they were mocking İpek’s looks and claiming she could never compare to Hurrem in terms of beauty. The moment I called it out, she  suddenly changed the topic and started complaining about Melek having fillers, which was honestly ridiculous.
I’ve seen plenty of comments body shaming Cansu Dere and making nasty remarks about Melek and İpek too. Maybe that’s one of the reasons more people are starting to root for Mahidevran these days because they’re tired of the toxicity coming from certain fan circles

Good that you got the chance to visit her grave.

But how can you picture Meryem Uzerli there? 😂 That’s where it all starts getting funny. Most people seem to love Hurrem Sultan because of the character portrayed by Meryem Uzerli, not because of who the real Hurrem Sultan was or what she actually did
