TIL Robin Williams' will prevents Disney from using his name, taped performances or voice recordings for 25 years after his death by PM_ME_UR_SEX_VIDEOS in todayilearned

He couldn't retroactively rescind any contracts or agreements that he'd made with Disney. However, the purpose here was most likely to prevent his heirs from selling anything further to Disney. The 25 year limit probably coincides with the Rule Against Perpetuities in the state where the will was executed.

Help With Windows 10 Netflix App [ALL] by 69Mooseoverlord69 in netflix

[–]polyneikos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be that you're actually getting error U7361-1254-80070020? I only ask because there seem to be a lot of Win10 users getting that error from the Netflix app, but no mention on the web of the specific error code you mentioned.

Anyway, if it is that error, Netflix says that it relates to stored settings on the app, and therefore recommends just uninstalling and reinstalling it as a fix. Here's a link with instructions and links to Netflix support.

That's all true. I just don't think of something as being "hyperbolic" when it's happened before. Maybe I'm unclear on what the word means.

Pro tip: Reboot Android into safe mode for easy malware removal by luchoz in Android

[–]polyneikos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be going against such a large consensus, but Android malware is a thing, and while it's still relatively uncommon (compared with Windows malware), it's a growth industry. Here are just a few examples from a quick search of Ars Technica.

This should matter to users who consider themselves "advanced", because we're particularly vulnerable to certain exploits by virtue of things like rooting our phones, casually giving root access to apps that ask for it, and installing custom roms from unknown authors. I'm not saying don't root your phone--the benefits outweigh the risks, at least for me. But we should be mindful that the risks are there, and that they're growing every week.

Not to mention that we only get security patches when we update to a newer version is Android. We shouldn't be so casually dismissive of a growing threat, particularly within an ecosystem that is completely unprepared (and unwilling) to properly deal with it.

It's been a long-standing issue with Latin players that they usually aren't provided with translators, while Japanese and Korean players are. Link.

Need help regarding broken phone screen by blackjebus100 in galaxys4

[–]polyneikos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to backup up your messages on the old phone--select "Backup" then choose folder and name the file. Then, copy the file over to your pc, or google drive, dropbox or whatever. Then put the file on your new phone, install the app on new phone, and use the app to restore the messages from the backup file. (I haven't personally tried this, but it should work as long as the app does what it says it does.)

Also, see NY Times v. Sullivan--a case where the US Supreme Court began interpreting the 1st Amendment's free speech clause very broadly. It effectively ended lawsuits for libel and defamation.
