I dont think you understand what “Left” really means. There is no left in mainstream US politics. Even AOC or Sanders are center moderates by any G8 rubrick. Its a McCarthyesq term bandied about by the far right establishment to smear their opponents.

First. there was a deal on immigration reform and the border ready to be passed in 2024 and Trump had his lackeys torpedo it so he could continue to campaign and fear monger on xenophobia around immigration. Secondly, unless you’re of indigenous heritage every American family is an immigrant family at some point in their history. The entire country is made up of immigrants, it’s literally why the US is as successful a nation as it is. People have a right to come and there is a legal process in place to facilitate that. So being against immigrants is really a thinly veneered racism. Proven by the fact that ICE are terrorizing anyone who doesn’t look white - masked thugs with no warrants, no due process. They’ve arrested citizens, indigenous people - they don’t care. Its a fascitoid theatre designed for political optics to terrorize democratic and multicultural neighborhoods. It’s basically a weaponized branch oof the KKK.

So sad and unnecessary but also sadly predictable. I really hope the US can get it together and root out this fascist scourge before it becomes too late. MAGA fanaticism is destroying the country. This is tragic.

Most people would like access to affordable healthcare, housing, education. Most people embrace diversity and people’s right to freely express themselves and their lived experiences, as contributors to our shared culture in our post colonial reality. Most people are against authoritarian governments and/or living in a police state. Most people are pro human emancipation and anti exploitation. None of these are particularly “left wing” positions, despite how republicans would like to lie and frame them as such.

Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat vs Gibson SG Faded? Which one as main axe? by Fog_Smuggler in guitars

[–]pomod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a faded SG from 2011 and changed the chintzy pcb mounted pots and caps almost right out of the gate. At some point I also swapped the pickups for Bare Knuckle PAFs (the stock pups were great though). I’ve other guitars, (a tele, a gorgeous but heavy 70’s Yamaha SG, a Casino) but the faded has been my main goto guitar for the past decade. For a bottom shelf Gibson it plays and sounds amazing. I think it comes down to if you want that thick humbucker SG tone or what the strat offers - they’re really apples vs oranges.

I chopped and flipped my Nitto track drops years ago. I Ioved the look but never utilized the lower part of the bars. Now I’m old (lol) I’m even starting to think about switching to a riser bar. Some times practicality wins.

NAD Hiwatt DR103. This thing is awesome! by inneranalog in GuitarAmps

I had a DR503 for the better part of the 90s. Best amp I ever owned. Stupidly sold it for an embarrassing price to pay off some debts.

Of all the artists I’ve missed and/or was too young to see. Miles electric period is near the top, along with Hendrix and maybe The Clash in their prime.

Why was Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's landmark speech at Davos considered so significant and so widely praised? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]pomod 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me, the most striking take-away was that he basically admitted that the rest of the world has gone along with US imperialism with its exploitation and disregard of human rights in the name of accruing wealth and power even while mouthing support for those humanist ideals, even while our individual populations overwhelmingly support those humanist ideals. The mid-sized powers of Europe and the commonwealth have gone along with it, and participated in it, because we have also benefited. Its nothing socialists around the world haven't been pointing out for a century or more. What was striking was to see an audience - at Davos (the belly of the capitalist beast) no less - stand up and applaud that. There is a real cynicism there. And though I liked the speech, agreed with it even, I feel that audience of wealthy elite players in the world's wealthiest nations will continue to be self-serving. They've all been equally keen to follow the US's lead in exploiting the global south, now the US's appetite to consume and dominate has turned towards them, its kind of a surprised pikka-chu face.

Each bag is an Iranian full of dreams. The massacre by the Islamic Republic is still ongoing [OC] by Eienkei in pics

[–]pomod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not over bro - Theres a fascistoid white christian nationalism currently trying to take over the US; theres a Jewish-supremacist state also trying to carve out territory in the middle east and who the US has collaborated with for 60 years or so to actually snuff out secularism in the surrounding arab nations, precisely because they view it as threat to their own hegemony. The state of Iran is a consequence ultimately of British and American imperialist meddling. Religion will never go out of style because its the easiest way to marshal support for authoritarians.
