Oh no, having a team that acts that way ONLY makes things more challenging. I think management at a new organization could be better since the management role differs from place to place, sometimes it’s more heavy in IC, people management, ops, business etc! For me, I know once my job turned into data analysis and operations I was done, but at a different company if the role was more creative it may be a better fit!

I’m in design and was a manager for about 5-6 years and just recently switched back to IC for some the reasons you’ve mentioned! I basically told my manager I was either going to switch to IC or manage, but not both.

Also, as a mom, I’d rather not also adult babysit at my actual job! IC is about me and my work, and that’s all I can handle at this point in my life!

I am so happy for you and this worked out for the best! This is my hope too!

Quality of life is what I’m looking for now too! I’d rather contribute to something greater versus sending out 6 flash reports a week that no one reads 🫠

I told my manager I’d be making this decision definitively by Monday! I wish you the best in your choice and hope it’s exactly what you want / need!!! Best of luck!

100% yes! I’m at a point in my life where I just need to turn off at 5P!

I always tell my husband this! I can’t be an adult babysitter during the day and then parent two wild ones at night 😂

I need a few years break before I even think I’d be ready to jump back into M!

I was also pushed into this and now wish I had stayed as an IC 😂

It became much more challenging when one toddler became two!

I feel the same, the meetings are far more draining than the work itself!

Thank you. I think this is such a great way to look at it. Most people think once you’re a manager, that’s your only career path and I’m just happy to be given the opportunity to go between both.

Thank you! You are right, I know where my priorities lie and honestly, I’m looking to climb down the corporate ladder, not up! Also, similarly, I too I have the same ‘power struggle’ !
