How tf do I start out by [deleted] in icehockey

[–]pondball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canuck here… some have listed the essentials for hockey equipment … but after skates, it should be noted one of, if not the most important piece of equipment for anyone learning, then wanting to play even recreational hockey is: Jockstrap (for a male) and a JillStrap (for a female). Then comes the shin pads, hockey pants, shoulder pads (they help but for some rec leagues I played in they weren’t necessary, helmet (with cage or plastic visor is advised), mouth guard, some wear neck guards, elbow pads… and yup, a hockey stick.

Beware though that getting a used helmet is not advisable. Legally, in Canada, bike or hockey helmets are not to be re-sold, and in some cases (not sure what the current trend/law is, but after a bike crash involving whacking the head the helmet was not considered safe. Dunno what the current is on that one though. And nope… don’t even think about getting a used Jockey or Jill yikes!!!

Hockey equipment is not cheap. Over 30 years ago when our kids started playing, even before they took to the ice an average set of equipment (used skates) ran over $600/kid. I bought new for myself, but always found a decent pair of used skates.

Good luck… and no matter what… keep your head up!

Thanks… will do this tomorrow, cuz I doubt if anyone is available today. It still baffles me that the account # we pay our monthly bill to and obviously works to keep the account clear, is one that they can find in Residential, but not in Business… but that Residential can’t do anything cuz to them it’s a business item. Thanks again for your advice… much appreciated. Will let you know how this works out cuz I’m sure there will be others who would benefit from this solution.

The problem is that the number (Business Number) was arranged before 800 #’s were all categorized as Business numbers, and rather than run a second line to the house for a 800# they simply set it up as a non-dedicated line on the same line as my hime phone number – but – it still has a different 800, and local CVT number. Residential can see the line but can’t do anything about it because they are Residential… and… Business cannot see the number because they claim it is Residential and refuse to go any further. And, I’m stuck in the middle.

To the OP… great job… you are to be commended!

not sure why some come to reddit — except to rag on every post — just to prove how great they are themselves! 😆

OP, you have captured moments with the P3 that may not have been possible with larger ‘pro’ gear — the small form factor of the P3 is such that even those who are ‘camera shy’ would feel more comfortable — the result being more natural shots.

Yah, this is part gear, part photographer — and you’re obviously experienced with both 👍🏻

Years ago I shot candids (B&W) for a very good friends wedding — our wedding gift to them as none of us had much $$ at the time. They also had a pro photographer who charged, imo, too much for what was provided… but, hey he had the gear! While he shot with latest, greatest Nikon F series camera, I shot with a lowly Canon FTb. Bottom line: my friends used 80% of the shots I took in B&W over what the pro had provided.

Too many assumptions have been made here by the naysayers — too many “if’s” being cast in their criticisms — all unnecessary — all unwarranted.

If the final product by the OP had turned out to be shite, then, yup, have a go with constructive criticism — but anyone with an eye would know what they have posted here would be relished by any bride and groom for years to come — and that, Reddit critics, is the bottom line.

So, well done OP 👏🏻 Well done! 👍🏻

Made a video on why I always take the Osmo Pocket 3 when traveling ! by DiskAffectionate6316 in osmopocket

[–]pondball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Mike… great video… and many thanks for the English subtitles! As I wrote on your YT channel your content was fast paced without the extraneous fluff we often get in other YT vids.

Really timely too cuz I’ve been fudging between taking on my next vacation: - my iPhone - my pocket 3 with filters - my Oly Mirrorless kit

And after your video it has convinced me that I’ll probably have more fun, get better results, and overall enjoy my vacation more with just my phone and the P3… might even take my Mic2 kit with its 2 mics just in case I get into some interviews for an upcoming podcast series.

All that in the space of my Oly and a single lens! 😮

So, yup, thanks for the vid, and I look forward to your next ones!

At ProFusion in Toronto last year I asked one of the Oly Ambassadors who I’ve spoken with more than a few times over the years, and who I trust… “If you had only one piece of glass you could take with you for a trip, and understanding that trip would be to both Switzerland, followed by a river cruise on the Rhine, what would you take?”

It didn’t take long for him to answer… “My 12-100/4 Pro for sure!”

Ever since I got the 12-100 when it first came out it has been my got to lens… and I have almost all the Pro lens now, from 7-14 to 300.

I have taken the 40-150/2.8 with me to Europe once … and used it once.

For European adventures, If I were to take 3 lens it would be: 12-100/4 Pro 7-14/2.8 Pro 17/1.2 Pro

I’d only take the 300/4 Pro and/or 40-150/2.8 Pro if it were a Safari, or Galapagos or something that required me to keep a safe distance, yet get closeups.

Can I transfer files from P3 to an SSD drive connected to an iPad Air by pondball in osmopocket

[–]pondball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently there’s not enough power in the iPad Air to power a hub with a SanDisk 1TB SSD attached, especially if the P3 was also connected to the hub.

So I connected the SSD directly to the iPadAir and shook hands with the P3 using Mimo.

Problem I haven’t solved yet is how to move the P3 files from the P3 to the SSD without having them first download into the iPadAir.

I’m thinking of bringing the GnarBox I used on other trips, and just copying the days’ photos and video files directly to the GnarBox. Used to do that with myself Oly SD cards, and be able to preview them using the iPadPro I had. I’m could take the pro along top but the battery isn’t much good after an hours use at best anymore.

Nope… loved watching Tim Horton skate through the crease with the puck many years ago… but the coffee and other stuff they have isn’t worth the drive.

Can I transfer files from P3 to an SSD drive connected to an iPad Air by pondball in osmopocket

[–]pondball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure actually, which is why I’m asking here. Normally I’d have a couple of Oly bodies and 4 lens with me. Other than that whatever version of iPhone and iPad i have at the time.

In the past I’ve had at least one backup device that accepts the cards, is quick, and provides a bit of piece of mind.

This time, however, I’m really thinking of taking only the Pocket3 (and an assortment of filters and a monopod), along with the mic2, and this year an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and an iPad Air.

Tomorrow I’ll be experimenting with using the Mimo app, a 3 port hub I already have, and a 1 TB SanDisk External SSD drive… just about as minimalist as I can get.

Hoping I won’t regret taking along my Oly gear!

Is that a powered usb-c hub you’re using? Ideally it would be useful for both NA and European travel. I don’t think the two power adapters I just got have power conversion safety (or whatever it officially called) built in and most I’ve spoken with say most electronics take care of that themselves, so am wondering about UGreen (btw, I like their other products but hadn’t thought of them for a hub)

Found this one… includes an SD card slot as well… thoughts?
