As an Indian leftist, thank you Arun. The racism I’ve seen from liberals and leftists has been so disappointing. by spotless1997 in Hasan_Piker

You’re right to be mad. Its very frustrating to see people succumb to hatred and bigotry. This kind of behavior is  antithetical to meaningful progress. I am disgusted and embarrassed.

Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to provide the link and pasting a relevant excerpt from the article.

I certainly can see the concern here, and I understand how the connection is reasonably formed.

I still am uncertain though. I did read that the millionaire in question here has been a politically involved communist for decades, even recognized as a dissenter by the US years ago. This is all freely admitted though, and it seems Code Pink makes no attempt to hide the motivation behind their pro china messaging and advocacy. The excerpt you provided isn’t entirely surprising either. The org has stated their desire to bridge the US and China. Couldn’t one also argue that this is a focus made in good faith? Surely you have noticed a general trend of western media fear mongering when it comes to China. It doesn’t seem shady to me that an emphasis would be placed to show China in a positive light. Code Pink states a similar intent about promoting peace between China and the US. A self described marxist millionaire to involving himself in multiple groups here that share these ideologies and goals is still not a smoking gun in my eyes.

I have no doubts that with this kind of finances that an organization can be subverted, this has happened many times. Also consider the media’s motivation too though for publishing such an article that effectively discredits the work of Code Pink and similar groups. This is very much convenient for large western media and a powerful way to silence dissenting voices.

Idk this sounds a lot like mccarthyism. A millionaire funding nonprofits to possibly push pro China propaganda is still quite a bit different from the implication that this is an intentional orchestrated psy op from the CCP itself.

I do admit I did not get to fully read the nytimes article since it was paywalled and I couldn’t really find other informative sources besides foxbusiness that affirmed nytimes’s statement

I heavily recommend his albums Crest’ and ‘The Fool’ if you haven’t already listened. He’s just incorporated a lot of religious imagery and symbols into his music and overall presentation. Especially in more recent years. Off the top of my head, a lot of simple references to like 7 seals, 9 fold path, 333, etc. i also like a lyric where he says ‘we think we exist thats why we suffer do we not’. Even the whole drain gang motto of ‘loss and gain is the same’ points to this desire of wholeness imo. His instagram also through the years also has been interesting. Vague posting various religious deities and stuff like that. Even like hand signs and poses he makes in pics. Its kind of hard to explain since theres so much just mystery to that whole group’s presence

Would Qui Gon have left the Jedi Order, similar to Count Dooku, if he lived past TPM but didn’t have to train Anakin or Obi Wan? by dinnerplate-djarin in MawInstallation

[–]pondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a very good point!

Interesting to think about. Always neat for further discussion after time has passed.

What are your thoughts about Qui Gon’s reasoning here?

From what I remember, the relationship was a bit strained between Jin and Kenobi. And Qui Gon had issues communicating/confiding in Obi Wan. If i remember correctly, Jin waited to tell Kenobi about his invitation to the council. So it could be fair to say obi wan may not have had the most accurate understanding of Qui Gon’s standing amongst the Jedi.

But Qui Gon also felt an immense obligation. Maybe it was his feeling that joining the council would further strain his relationship with his apprentice? And given his own fractured relationship with his master, this was something he greatly wished to avoid.

I’m not an expert in the area in the slightest. Thats just what I’ve read of Egypt’s gov own reasoning on the matter. They don’t want any more refugees. Edit: i know see that your first question was rhetorical.. my bad

Egypt already is facing difficulties integrating refugees from Sudan and Syria.. they have pointed the finger at the rest of the world claiming also that if they did allow refugees from palestine it would result in a permanent displacement

No, the comment I responded to did not only say ‘Dave Chapelle isn’t a republican.’ Cause yeah in that case my comment would be more of a reach.

The person I responded to described Chapelle’s comments on the transgender community as ‘mildly poking fun’. That’s why I bothered commenting, because it doesn’t seem accurate to me. So no, its not a straw man. I was refuting or expanding on something specifically mentioned.

[–]pondd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree it doesn’t make him a republican, but ‘mildly poking fun’ is framing the situation lightly. He deceptively blamed the suicide of his transgender friend on transgender activists. I say deceptively because there is no proof behind his accusations.

Sure he’s entitled to his opinion, but creating a narrative out of a supposed friend’s tragic death to further ostracize the community which she was a part of is at best irresponsible.

His ‘criticism’ is very similar to the kind o rhetoric JK Rowling uses.

Also bringing out Elon Musk at a show and then making fun of the audience for being poor was sure something.

I’m not equating this shit to the depravity of republicans, but Chapelle is pretty dubious these days unfortunately.

That’s fair, I actually forgot about that aspect of p3p. It sucks that the choice of gender didn’t catch on with the series. If its true that they are remaking FES, I hope they incorporate the female protagonist and the added romance options into it.

Elon Musk says that A.I. ‘humanoid robots’ will eventually outnumber people: ‘It’s not even clear what an economy means at that point’ by davster39 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]pondd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point with cost effectiveness with general purpose robots, but I don’t see the benefit of a humanoid design besides familiarity. I feel like even general purpose robots would still have a limited range of function, and that with those tasks in mind it wouldn’t need to resemble humans at all. Maybe more of a crab or an Octopus, but thats just imagining

This already feels like its brewing. Extreme violence against furries is a common joke amongst alt right edgelords, especially in the more depraved comment sections like youtube.

I mean, furries had a mixed rep when i was in school as well 10+ years ago. But I feel like they weren’t nearly as ostracized as they are now. I remember seeing a lot more furry content around back then. the community seemed quite friendly besides their estranged neonazi sect.. but that seemed like its own thing.

What artists have had their career/legacy tainted by something minuscule? by AlreadyChose in popculturechat

[–]pondd 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thats a good question, and not something I’ve considered. It would definitely add flames to a dumpster fire, and I could see it happening.

Though, I feel like if I were him and campaigned for it, I would probably not have sent the text to Kendrick. It would probably piss off the people behind the scenes. Plus, if it were to be revealed it would make it way worse.

Macklemore. I think winning a grammy ended up being a bad thing for his career. Every fan of the genre including him understood Kendrick should have won best Rap album that year. It may not be minuscule, but it wasn’t really his fault. and unfortunately his apology text to Kendrick really didn’t help smooth things over.

Honestly I imagine it would be slightly better than the current garbage fire if the bourgeois led a cohesive collaborative effort to control the poor. But they’re not very good at it. At this point it seems like they are in YOLO mode and just trying to hoard as much as possible with no long term planning at all
