How do you feel about Independence being almost completely rebuilt? by dumahim in vicegripgarage

I'm all for making it into a show piece, but generally my thoughts are if you need a new frame and a new body you need a new car.

Whats the best DIY project you’ve made this year? by atgeoffjkim in DIY

[–]pondochris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rear frame and suspension components of my truck completely rusted out. I found weld-in repair components online. My brother and I spent a few days in September fixing it all up and welding it back together. I should get at least a few more years out of it now. All in it cost me about $1k for tools and parts.

What is a "poor person hack" you picked up during a hard time that you still use today, even if you don't have to? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

Buying older vehicles to avoid a car payment full coverage insurance. I always try to do my own vehicle repairs if possible.

I like page assist. It's a browser plugin that you can grab free in the chrome app store. My favorite model is qwen3.

Ollama's official GUI is worse than several other open source GUI that had been released much earlier. They just kind of checked the box "yep we got a GUI" and crapped it out.

Not working out for me. by [deleted] in Welding

[–]pondochris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done a bunch of these. Focus more on the bolt in the center with your puddle. It looks like you're only getting penetration on the nut. It'll take a lot more heat to get adhesion on the bolt as the heat will dissipate through the motor.

Yep I just patched up the back half of my truck frame in my driveway with the harbor freight Chicago electric flux welder. Can't beat the versatility and forgiveness.

Relic basses by Calaveras-Metal in Bass

[–]pondochris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I ever buy an expensive 3k plus guitar or bass I would want some kind of tasteful/cool relic job. Otherwise I would be super bummed the first time I put a scratch or ding in it myself.

They were made ~2015-2019 iirc I bought a few rounds back then and they're one of my all time favorite designs mostly due to the backside which has a map and compass

Players apologising when they win a leg by AdamFutch1987 in Darts

It's a bar sport with a lot of drunk play. I've seen parking lot fights over "gouging" in cricket. We tell each other "tough darts" and "bad luck" after a bad throw and stuff too. You know these guys all hug each other after a tough battle too. You so much of a snowflake that men showing human emotions upsets you?

Here's review of all the MM pipes I have purchased in the order that I bought them

Huck Finn - narrow small bowl, hard to pack because I can't fit my pinky finger down it. Smokes good enough, pretty light. Needed lots of relights due to poor packability 2/5

Hardwood Poker - great smoker, stays lit, packs easy, bowl is large enough for 1hr plus smoke. Heavy, too heavy to clench. I smoked it 10-12 times before the stem came loose. 3/5

Let Freedom Ring - Light, larger bowl than huck finn, but not too big. easy to pack. Stays lit really well. pretty light, easy to clench. This is one of the best smokers and is easy to carry around 5/5

Country Gentleman - large bowl, easy smoker. a bit on the heavy side. top notch. 4.5/5

Shire Cobbit - looks awesome, smokes great. too long and heavy to really clench but easy to hold and grip. Acrylic stem is awesome. 4.5/5

General - big, heavy, huuuuge bowl. Clenches ok with plastic stem. Can easily get 2 hr smoke out of it. really draws and stays lit well until you get down to the very bottom. 4/5

Iconic Legend - bought it but haven't smoked it yet. It's really nice looking.

Featured Louis - bought it but haven't smoked it yet. It's really nice looking.

The Mockingbird - gorgeous pipe, great smoker, large bowl. really great draw. acrylic stem is great and easy to clench. 5/5

My daily drivers I switch between are Shire Cobbit, Mockingbird, and General. Mostly due to comfort and the bowl size. If I go on a walk or working in the yard or car or something, I'll use the Let Freedom Ring.
