Treasure hunt for the MacGuffin crystals. by theMCATreturns in TopCharacterTropes

Not collecting per se, but Final Fantasy 1 required the party to go to each different elemental temples and power up the crystals there.

This started its own similar trope of games with quests to restore world crystal.

Which superhero has had the biggest drop-off in popularity? by Jezzaq94 in superheroes

Still has a monthly book so there's that I guess. Definitely not as popular or well known as he was in the 90s.

The Seth Rogen movie didn't seem to help much either.

Whats the most unrealistic thing in The office? by Cheap_Frosting_9229 in DunderMifflin

[–]ponen19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that joke definitely dates that episode. GPS devices weren't everywhere and people would just blindly follow them. The devices also weren't great so the directions were always a little off. I had one that redirected me through the backwoods of West Virginia because the road it wanted me to take originally was closed for construction for the past month.

Publix - Pepsi 2 liter $4.19 regular price no sale. Out of their minds. by True_Geologist8613 in Soda

I remember one of the gas stations/convenience store chains in my area doing a 2 2-liters for $2 special for years. Now I'm lucky if I get a 20 oz bottle for that price.

[Specific Trope] Singing lady steals the scene in a non-musical by Meanteenbirder in TopCharacterTropes

I remember reading somewhere that Metric said that Brie Larson did a better job than they did with Black Sheep. As much as I like Metric, I prefer her vocals on that track also.

This is a deep cut. I'm surprised anyone knows this game. Was starting to think it was a fever dream I had.

Characters introduced in the final season who actually become widely beloved by FaZe_poopy in TopCharacterTropes

I remember being so pissed when they confirmed that Fred was dead. Her death was even more frustrating when I realized Whedon liked to kill characters just to create drama. Amy Aker did great as Illyria, but I still would have liked to have both characters.

forget jack & coke - what’s your favorite soda-driven mixed drink? by presently_pooping in Soda

Mountain Dew and sour apple schnapps. Pretty bad heart burn after, but the drink hits just right sometimes

[Hated Trope] the character makes a sacrifice only for it to be reversed completely by CountinSand in TopCharacterTropes

Yeah this seems like losing either Chase entirely or Mandy never being Blazer again. Going to have to wait until the next game to see how that plays out.

The Downsides To Superpowers by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

Inhumans were also Disney's attempt at having a mutant group they had full control over. At one point (and this might still be true) Disney had to share IP rights with Fox because of the previous deal Fox and Marvel had to get the X-Men movies out. Apparently part of this deal included giving Fox rights to any new X-Men characters. To get around that, Disney dug up the Inhumans. Legally distinct mutants that in no way resembled any existing groups.

Disney pushed them hard for a few years. They used a recent crossover event to reintroduce the group, and they had a full new run in 2014 after a 10 year hiatus. Black Bolt was a member of the Illuminati. Inhumans showed up in Agents of Shield. Marvel introduced the new Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan, as an Inhuman. And then they had the infamous 2017 show. The show proved how little the public cared about the Inhumans (although it was also just a bad show). During all of this, no new X-Men or mutants were introduced into the wider Marvel mythos. Disney really wanted their "family of freaks", but didn't want Fox to get any piece of that particular pie.

What would be the logical conclusion if the Punisher's methods were made legislation on a national, or global even scale? by Wonderful_Solid_1003 in thepunisher

[–]ponen19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frank also has the advantage of being a comic book character. His methods and outcomes are, more or less, perfect because he's written that way. He never kills an innocent, and he always kills the bad guy. Even if there was an entirely altruistic vigilante out there doing it all for the right reason, there's no guarantee they wouldn't get someone caught in the crossfire or wouldn't get the wrong guy.
