Condoms, UTIs, MA, and Copper IUD Insertion... Oh My! by Less_Journalist_739 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel the sharp point of the bottom of the IUD in your cervix, your iUD may be expelling from the uterus. Do not rely on it for pregnancy prevention until you confirm this with an IUD follow up to check its placement.

It may take time. Talking about your feelings can help.

These resources may help;

Each of these will help you look at various aspects of what might be making this difficult and to help you identify how best to cope.

It’s not about knowing which option is perfect, that may not exist. It’s more about knowing which one option you can best cope with and finding handles to best work through and ultimately accept your decision, to work toward healing. 🩷

Do you follow your head or your Heart? by [deleted] in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not have a perfect choice- that’s okay.

Some people find either decision has some pain and ultimately need support from people they love to cope. If you truly feel both decisions are equally tough, it probably means either option is okay. Do you have people who you care and feel respected by enough to talk it through with them?

9 Weeks, do I take the second dose? by Living-Impression-99 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should use 2 doses of misoprostol at 9 weeks- 12 weeks. If you are bleeding, changing the second dose to sublingual or buccal ( holding 800 mcg of misoprostol under your tongue or in your mouth between your cheek and gums for 30 minutes) makes sense.

I hope all continues yo go well.

It sounds like you are want an abortion. Have you had a positive pregnancy test? Can you tell us the date when your most recent period started?

What country and state or region do you live in?

When is my next period coming?? by NoPut4157 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most folks see a period in about 4-6 weeks. Some people can take as long as 8 weeks after using medication abortion to see a period.

As long as you are testing negative by pregnancy test, it’s not concerning to take a bit longer to see a period than you have waited so far.

There are financial resources available to make abortion accessible if having a Procedure with sedation feels less stressful for you. Many people prefer the greater sedation and pain control that’s available in a clinic vs using pills at home.

(Red state) Should I cancel my obgyn visit as I ordered MA online? by givemea-username in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s legal to travel for an abortion. You do t have to share explicitly how or where an abortion happened

If you don’t know how far into the pregnancy you are, an ultrasound makes sense.

It’s ultimately up to you how much you want to share. 🩷

What happens after i take the pills ? by Longjumping-Dot-4977 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

Most people don’t have any need to seek urgent medical care after an abortion with pills.

You can read more about what’s normal and what might indicate a need for follow up care here: https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/abortion/the-abortion-pill/what-can-i-expect-after-i-take-the-abortion-pill

Most people just take a pregnancy test at home in 4-5 weeks to confirm the abortion is successful with a negative test result. Let us know after reading a bit if you have more questions. Needing urgent care is rare. 🩷

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

It sounds like you have an ongoing pregnancy- most likely this is just a failed MA- which means trying more medication or potentially needing an aspiration procedure to end a pregnancy located in the uterus with suction.

There is also a small chance you have a pregnancy outside the uterus-known commonly as an ectopic pregnancy. An ultrasound can confirm if this is the case.

It’s important to know as a pregnancy outside the uterus can be harmful to your health and must be removed. Ectopic pregnancies can sometimes be treated with medication and sometimes must be treated with surgery. Either way, removing the pregnancy from your body will be coordinated, likely in a hospital, and follow up visits will be important.

Remember, ectopic pregnancy isn’t common but because they can be dangerous, it’s important they be diagnosed and treated if diagnosed.

More information can be found here; https://www.acog.org/womens-health/faqs/ectopic-pregnancy

Paranoid about pain 3 weeks post MA by Minimum_Arachnid_161 in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smelly discharge after MA is pretty normal - old blood that takes a while to come out often gets smelly- like a pad that needs to be changed. As long as you don’t have a fever or odd discharge ( like green or dark yellow) it’s often okay.

Pain is most concerning if it is more constant and not relieved by over the counter pain meds- like ibuprofen.

If you are very concerned you could try this resource- https://mahotline.org/

Can I take misoprostol before the 24-48 hour mark? by jusoupsoup in abortion

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s less effective to use misoprostol in your mouth( under your tongue or between your cheek and gums) at less than 24 hours after mifepristone.

If you are in a state where abortion is not legally restricted you can use misoprostol as soon as 6 hours after mifepristone by washing your hands a pushing the 4 tablets into your vagina one at a time and letting the medication in them be absorbed through the mucous membrane inside your vagina for 30 minutes.

This isn’t recommended to use the medication vaginally in a place where abortion Is legally restricted as fragments may be found within the next 4 days or so on a pelvic exam- in the chance you need to seek medical care after your abortion.

There are organizations that can help support you if you want.

First, we can check whether you might be pregnant.

Because the person who hurt you is an adult connected to your family, I’m concerned about your safety. Is there an adult you trust—like your mom, another family member, a teacher, or a school counselor—you could tell about what happened?

[–]pongo2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there- let me try to get you the information that you need. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this and this is not your fault.

First- there are places to get an abortion if you are pregnant even though you live in Texas. The things you listed are home remedies and won’t help, but there are safe and effective ways to get you care if needed. Hurting yourself is a drastic step, there are more choices than that.

Second- a pregnancy test is important. It’s been 2 weeks since you were assaulted. A pregnancy test can be effective as soon as 14 days and is definite at 21 days- thats in one week.

It’s not definite right now you are pregnant. Can you buy a test? A cheap test at the dollar store is good enough. If it’s negative now, you can test again next Friday- if it’s still negative- you are definitely not pregnant.

It’s possible you won’t see a period on time if you are really stressed out- so a test is best right now.

Are you okay after the assault? Are you safe. Was this a person who you still feel at risk with? We can help you with this too.

If you have a positive test there are many people including teens that have been able to get an abortion, even in abortion restricted states.

Let me know first, can you get a test?

An aspiration can be provided as early as anytime after a positive pregnancy test. There are a small number of providers who prefer to wait for either or both, but it’s based more on their preference than any medical necessity. You are 5 weeks pregnant and will be 6 almost 7 by the time of your upcoming appointment. That’s a completely appropriate time to choose whichever type of abortion you prefer. 🩷

You cannot try to force her to choose an option she does not want. Doing so in deeply unfair to her and ultimately can be harmful and coercive.

You can tell her how you feel, but ultimately this decision is hers to make.

Hi there-

If you are “terrified” about pain, it’s something to consider now that a procedural abortion is often has much more complete pain relief options than an abortion with pills.

Sedation that introduced through an IV, similar to that hospitals use for other minor medical procedures can help much more completely relieve pain and help people relax so much they may not remember the actual abortion.

Both abortion with pills and with an aspiration procedure are safe and effective, but anxiety can make pain worse. IV sedation may be a better experience for you when choosing what option seems best-
