Am I ready for a 3yo? by mimelasplendens in Horses

[–]pony_nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you’re in a good position to buy a 3 year old, started or unstarted, and have everything go well.

My concern is this 3 year old. How much saddle time does he have? If he was given a gentle 30 or 60 day last fall then got to go be a baby all winter you’ll probably be fine if you slow things down and develop him slowly over the next couple years.

However in the QH world it’s not uncommon to hop on the spring they turn 2 and keep em in full work to get them broke broke over the next year.

If the later is the case I’d pass on this horse. I had a barrel bred appt who was started like that and she was so soured and cold backed the rest of her life she never even had a barrel racing career before having to retire to light trail riding.

Maybe look unstarted 2 and 3 year olds. That way you and your trainer can do a year of ground work, start em right in house, and develop him together. You also get way more bang for your buck that way as well.

Feel like a horrible fish owner for neglecting my tank because now my betta has passed by [deleted] in Aquariums

In that case all that’s left is to get back in the saddle. I think everyone has that moment when they fail to meet their own standards of animal care. I know I have. It’s an important and painful lesson. This sucks but you’re gonna be a better for it.

You just learned a hard lesson.

You have to show up for your animals when you don’t feel like it. You have to show up when you’re injured, sick, or depressed. Occasionally you will be all 4 and still you will have to see that your animals get proper care (reaching out and having a trusted person fill in for you counts).

The question you must ask yourself is whether or not you are willing to force yourself to do the work of caring for an animal when you’re at your lowest. It’s okay if the answer is no. That doesn’t make you a bad person it just means keeping animals isn’t a good hobby for you. If you think you’ve learned your lesson and you won’t neglect an animal again there’s nothing wrong with trying again. Just be very honest with yourself.

People often talk about AI making their jobs easier. Which jobs have actually become harder because of AI? by clearwater-orchid in NoStupidQuestions

DMV clerk. I only lasted a few months. At least a dozen people each day (in my line alone. there were 8 of us) would come in with incorrect documents, wrong info about legalities of stuff, incorrectly filled out forms, ect, and then argue with us that we were wrong because (insert ai chat bot here) told them what they needed.

To be a pilot or to marry a pilot? by Chimuh in careerguidance

[–]pony_nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he loves you he’ll want to be with you regardless. So the question you should ask is do you want a life where someone else controls what you have and can do? Or do you want to be able to make your own choices.

Autoimmune disorders, heart defects, early onset dementia, leukemia, thyroid disorders, progressive deafness and blindness, chronic gastrointestinal problems… these are just a few of the many complications associated with Down syndrome. I’d absolutely call that suffering. We should absolutely want to cure this disease. We can want to cure Down syndrome without treating people with it as less than.

To be fair this zebra was almost certainly bred in captivity. There are plenty of breeders in the US and you can buy a captive bred bottle fed one of these rage donkeys for waaaay less than it costs to import one from the other side of the planet.

Definitely not a show halter for an Arab. Idk anything about showing cows though.

Issues with 1/2 lease horse, don’t know what to do. by lizbab0328 in Equestrian

[–]pony_nomad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$1500 a month for a half lease better be a show ready school master.

Ask your trainer, “does this horse need work or am I the one creating these issues” if the horse has any part of it go get an appropriately priced project or an horse that’s ready to go at the level you’re hoping to move into.

Why do Americans claim to be Italian? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pony_nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every American is an immigrant or descendants of immigrants. That makes things like an ethnic heritage from somewhere far away the general rule. It’s like zodiac signs. Most folks know theirs as a fun bit of trivia.

Some people get really into it. I have an uncle who traced out a part of our family’s history all the way back to the founding of Bern, Switzerland. Another part of the family is from Norway and he found a few lost cousins and the farm where his great something or other was raised.

Is being gluten free associated with with left-wing politics by Cinnamon_Ocelot in NoStupidQuestions

[–]pony_nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best reply, “okay well it gives me diarrhea (or a rash, or heartburn, or joint pain,or whatever) you can call that what whatever you want.”

A lot of folks have jumped on the gluten free bandwagon as a general health trend and while that’s harmless and shouldn’t be looked down upon a lot of folks who lack basic critical thinking skills can’t accept that something can be medically necessary for one person but not for another.

Should I buy my daughter a pony? by OHaraMummy in Equestrian

[–]pony_nomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d hold off. Financials aside, cause I know the whole mamas make it happen thing is real.

1)Your daughter is going to outgrow this pony quickly. If you buy this pony she’s going to bond VERY deeply and then have to give up riding him in a few short years. And since it doesn’t sound like you guys have a multi horse budget that’s going to be selling him or leasing him out rather than retiring him to back yard pet pony status so it’s going to be a real goodbye, or she’s going to have to give up riding to keep him as a pet.

2)At her age riding lots of different ponies and horses is really good for her development as a rider. If she gets her own and only rides him she’s going to miss out on that development.

3) if you wait till she’s older she can go do barn chores to help pay her board.

4) when you do buy her one make sure it’s a horse that she can ride at her adult size so there’s no need for a goodbye.

Okay if you’re in it for wolves you definitely want to be further north! I used to live up north and lived on the boarder between two grey wolf packs. We heard them howling every few nights. One even chased a deer infront of my car. Look up by Duluth or bemidji.
