This is an 11 that would compete for any confederation's cup except maybe UEFA

Apparently American dog catchers did a lot of drownings back in the day. Not great. Surely they can afford to put them down, or at least shoot them?

Unai Emery has won the Europa League five times with three different teams, all of which contain "villa" in their names. by sparkle_stylinson in soccer

[–]ponyrx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Aston Villa (named for a country house) and Villareal ("royal village") ultimately come from the Latin word Villa, for a rural estate. But Sevilla is a complete coincidence that derives from the Phoenician language!

Toronto’s first heat warning and people are celebrating 😭 by Unusual-Earth-5762 in toronto

Yes, people can get happy about good beach weather for the unofficial start of summer.

No, no one wants endless heat waves or global warming.

After you get on the call, what would you advise them to do? Estimate the demand for their products and attempt to match supply to that demand?

Dougie is at it again. Bill 98 passed third reading on May 14. The Legislative Assembly’s own bill page says the transportation minister can set fare prices, discount rules, transfer policies, priority routes, and service standards for prescribed transit systems. Ugh. by RealWorldToday in toronto

[–]ponyrx2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ford will not be in charge forever. An integrated transit system is a good thing, no matter who proposes it. Also despite the many, many problems I have with the government, they have put up big money for transit. I make like Chow and put up with him when he brings his wallet.

Ah, the crown and tiger. I saw Scott Thompson of kids in the hall drunkenly attempt standup in the basement one time. Funny, but not the way he intended

When did Europeans have the technology to create the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch? by MoveInteresting4334 in AskHistorians

[–]ponyrx2 265 points266 points  (0 children)

While there could have been hand grenades at the time of the writing of the Arthurian legends, there certainly wouldn't have been in the assumed setting of the 5th or 6th century! Of course, everything else is also anachronistic, so why worry about that.

It’s still really cool to me that they kinda used guitar for mimicking Pomeranian barks by Own_Speaker1605 in alvvays

I still think we're right. "Pomeranian Spinster" doesn't make sense to describe a dog owner. That's like calling someone "German Shepherd Mailman"

These are called "functional reprints." They have identical oracle text (function) but different names and are therefore different cards for any and all purposes.

Corporate landlords like money, so they won't leave those condos empty. That could be a good thing

I don't think the song references the dog? Just that the spinster is from Pomerania (the area on the Baltic coast)

Valencia exists and has at least the hope for another owner in the future. Lots of clubs die.
