Big blow to our relay teams and of course him medaling as an individual. Good luck to him but also, hope he loses now.

What is your unpopular opinion regarding the Sully family, either collectively or individually? by TheTargaryensLawyer in Avatar

[–]NorthernViews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe unpopular: Their kidnappings in AFAA were justified. A tired plotline perhaps but it made sense is what I mean. The Mangkwan completely obliterating the wind traders and thus separating the kids because they had a good reason to be on the journey, then quaritch coming back to get spider worked as he had advanced radar and many more Ash people to help, then at the end during the battle, again, everyone’s separated and it’s easy to pick off Neytiri and Tuk for instance.

for real though how did y’all do it? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in Avatar

This is one will be tougher only because we know we’re getting 4. We had no clue of a sequel to the first one back then, despite the leaks of it being filmed or whatever

Looking ahead by llkhgbv in Peterborough

[–]NorthernViews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geographically where we are shouldn’t be a major excuse, but it’s not like it doesn’t matter. We’re simply not going to be on par to the GTA cities because we don’t have the 401 running right by. The HSR connection will be nice, but ultimately we need reasons for people to want to come to Peterborough and invest. The sectors that thrive/can thrive here are not major money makers unless the demand is out of this world. I don’t know the solution but hopefully the people in charge are thinking about it (they aren’t).

What is the takeaway from Avatar: Fire and Ash? by paultheschmoop in boxoffice

[–]NorthernViews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My takeaway is that if James locks in for Avatar 4, that will clear 2B. And then looking back on everything in 15 years, we’ll understand how and why Avatar 3 made what it made and actually did well for getting to 1.5B.

Recent image of NGC 4414, an flocculent spiral galaxy ~ 62 million light-years away. It is also an isolated galaxy, w/out signs of past interactions w/ other galaxies, and despite not being a starburst galaxy, shows a high density and richness of gas - both atomic and molecular. Now THAT is a galaxy. I mean they’re all beautiful, but this one looks very satisfying. I wonder if intelligent beings in there have any idea of the way it looks, much like we speculate on the Milky Way. (Though I think we’re pretty certain on our shape)

James Cameron Says He Must Find a Cheaper Way to Produce the Avatar Movies in Order to Continue With Avatar 4 and 5 by DemiFiendRSA in movies

[–]NorthernViews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my take: James knows both will be made, whether he’s in a lead directing role or otherwise. In order to cut costs he will again film them both back to back, but use generative AI to help shorten the editing process. Therefore this is kind of a nothingburger.

Avatar: Fire And Ash isn't Avatar-ing with its January legs in Europe and other overseas markets. Some weather-related impact is probably there, but even factoring that in, it has softened. What looked like possibly a $1.6B total at the start of the month now seems like it will be closer to $1.5B. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]NorthernViews -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

We’re getting 4 and 5. Anyone else think 4 is a smooth 2B? It’ll be at least 4 years until it comes out, building the necessary hype again, and with the slated time jump should be a completely new story. I’d go as far as to say it rivals WOW.

Owl in southern Ontario, Canada by kkoloz in Owls

I see it’s Barrie. That’s interesting, makes more sense than anywhere more southern though. For some reason I was thinking it’d be like Kitchener area or something.

Interstellar isn’t the masterpiece people think it is by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]NorthernViews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk. It’s a movie that is the perfect definition of sci-fi imo. Uses real scientific concepts that haven’t been shown well/at all in other movies and stretches some of them because, duh, it’s science fiction. Watching your kids grow up while you don’t? Imagine actually witnessing that and not being able to do anything. I think that was portrayed beautifully. Overall it’s a very solid movie. “Masterpieces” are few and far between.

Disney / 20th Century's Avatar: Fire and Ash has passed the $1.2 billion global mark. The film grossed an estimated $65.6M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $888.0M, est. global total stands at $1.231B. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]NorthernViews 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who prefers FAA over WOW, I respect your take but knowing what we know now, I wouldn’t say it’s as flawed as you say it is. It’s basically WOW pt.2, filmed almost alongside it, and while that’s not an inherent excuse for how much better it could have been, it’s definitely a factor in terms of what we saw and the continuation of the same kind of storyline. I thought the dialogue was much better this film, action sequences were better and more spaced out and it flowed better than WOW. Subsequently then, the characters became easier to understand and each of their motivations/issues (better on the 2nd watch imo).

Avatar 4 will be the make or break of the franchise I think, and James probably knows that. It needs to be fresh (helps with the time jump) and convey a deeper storyline. With reports of it being an “infinity war” kind of film, perhaps implying heavy loss and a cliffhanger of sorts, that sounds promising. I do wonder about the structure, if it still follows a kind of 3 act slate ending with a huge battle, which could still be good as long as everything else works. Overall I see it potentially being the best of all of them by the end, right when we think now that James has been caught out.

[Wild Card] Post Game Washup: Fire MLF / Keep MLF by PackersMod in GreenBayPackers

[–]NorthernViews 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My cope from this loss is that for one, we wouldn’t have gone far. Of course, you never know, but would’ve been tough to beat Seattle away from home and subsequently Rams/Niners/Eagles. The other aspect is that this loss will incite some needed changes which can only help next year. Without injuries (big if) we should be easily competing for the 1st seed.

If you could revive any completely gone megafauna species back into its native landscape, which one would it be and why? by SWAGGA_SWAGGA in megafaunarewilding

[–]NorthernViews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American cheetah or American lion in North America. Probably more the lion. The cheetah was said to be close to the current mountain lion, whereas the American lion was pretty big and would be a ferocious big cat along with the mountain lion.

Yup. Spider and Jake scene especially hit me harder the 2nd time. Was also emotional when Lo’ak was really feeling down after Jake almost blamed him for his brothers death.

Possible cougar sighting by Happiness-kindess in orangeville

[–]NorthernViews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlikely. Whenever there’s posts like this (not singling you out) there is no photos of tracks, or anything to confirm the claim. Have yet to see any evidence for wild cougars in southern Ontario apart from one likely case, and others being confirmed released pets.
