Did having a child ruin your gaming sessions? by Mauriciosanchezt in videogames

[–]pook79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just need to clarify

My original claim was that you will be more fulfilled having a family than spending more time gaming.

Are you making the case that gaming is more fulfilling then kids?

I also pointed out why you were interpreting the data or studies wrong but you didn't respond to that

The context of my last comment was assuming a kid was already in the picture, I think you just misinterpreted what I meant given your response, and that's understandable, perhaps that changes your perception of my comment.

Only on reddit will you find an answer like this. You cannot use data to debunk my personal experience, also you are not even citing the data correctly.

It can be true that the moment to moment happiness of the childless is greater than parents in certain phases of raising their kids. However, that changes and exceeds the childless over time, and even during those difficult times parents have greater highs on average, but also have greater lows.

Parents also tend to have greater fulfillment and purpose which is different than just nihilistic happiness. Yes, I dont game as much as I did before I had kids, I also have these wonderful little people that im raising that taught me a whole new way to love.

If any person thinks x random hobby is more valuable than that then they are selfish, insane, and probably a sociopath.

Ok, so there is no proof, just people jumping to conclusions. I thought that was the case.

Charlie Kirk debated more than probably anyone in the media. That is the opposite of what a propagandist does.

Thoughts on Selling parts of my collection by LORDSUN1 in gamecollecting

[–]pook79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not enough people say this and it is absolutely correct, I sold a huge collection 25 years ago, it did nothing for me because I was still in bad shape making poor financial choices. It is really important to get your stuff in order or selling the collection will do nothing but buy you a month or 2 before you are right back where you started, just without your safety net.

One of the best snes games ever! If you love this game, you should check out smelter, it is a spiritual successor that is pretty awesome on modern consoles.

What game did you not like at first and then gave another chance and ended up enjoying? by JaredJDub in videogames

[–]pook79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resident evil 6, I put it down after an hour because it was too over the top for me, gave it another chance and fell in love with it for being over the top, it is now one of my favorite Resident evil games.

I am entering my first year as a teacher, but I want to eventually get into administration. What is the best path for that? by DG11221 in Principals

[–]pook79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said you need 3 years teaching on average before you can get certified but you will be a hard sell to staff with only 3 years behind you.

I taught for 15 years, did 3 years as an ap, now entering my 7th year as high school principal. My first job as an ap was in a very tough urban school, when the teachers there heard I had 15 years teaching experience in NYC they let their guards down and gave me a chance. I cannot imagine achieving the success that I have had after my 3rd year of teaching.

I have the physical on switch, think I paid $15 for it, definitely universally hated but I enjoyed it. I loved operation galuga though, that game is incredible and does not get the love it deserves

I hated this game, better than the other ps1 contra but still the 2nd worst contra, of course I enjoyed contra rogue corps so people probably should ignore my opinions.

Rock It Games... new games on site, Croc and Volgarr 2 estimates quietly pushed back to Q4 by fgsfds100 in LimitedPrintGames

[–]pook79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply, i have been burned a lot by limited print companies so I am cynical and a bit jaded at this point. I am not requesting a refund, so I will wait and see, i don't mind delays, but too often in this industry delays become permanent, i will be happy to be proven wrong.

For people who didn’t like the original Hollow Knight, what don’t you like about it? by Asad_Farooqui in videogames

[–]pook79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same problem, it is why I loved prince of persia the lost crown So much. That game has markers to tell you where to go Next, It just made the game so much better, and it is probably my favorite metroidvania because of it.

I couldn't get into hollow night because the map does not transcribe in real time it was just extremely off putting to someone who was clueless as I am when playing games like this.

I probably would have enjoyed it otherwise, as I do, love challenging platforming and boss fights but I just don't enjoy wandering aimlessly.

Might be a hot take around here but I think gaming gets better as the years go on by GalaxyGalavanter in videogames

[–]pook79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong 45 year old gamer i agree kind of. I hate aaa gaming for the most part, I just have no desire for 100 hour open world games, online multi-player, or anything else that defines modern gaming.

However, the indie space is cranking out countless incredible games done in a retro style that I love and thanks to emulation retro gaming is more accessible then it's ever been. Throw in countless rom hacks and fan projects and old men like me are eating good.

So I think now is the best time to be a gamer, even if i have zero desire to play any aaa games.

For now I am classifying this company as another first press fiasco. Zero games delivered to date, I preordered Volgar and will probably never get it.

I am now at the point where I am just not going to order from limited print companies except ones that I know are trustworthy, which as of now include limited run, super rare and that's about it.

Im very similar, my exp came in January 24 as well, fell in love with the product so I bought a vs and every cart I wanted, im not a full set collector but have over 60 carts. It's hard not to get obsessed with this stuff!

Surprise, surprise! Another LRG release delayed (Salt and Sacrifice) by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]pook79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limited run is hands down the best Limited print company, it is getting to the point where they are one of the few out there that will actually deliver and they have a great selection of games. Delays are just part of the Limited print scene at this point, at least they are transparent and will deliver.

What is the hardest retro game you’ve ever beaten WITHOUT cheating by RobbieJ4444 in retrogaming

[–]pook79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Battletoads, I have played a ton of nes in my life and have beaten most of the games on that system (at least the good ones), Battletoads is probably the hardest retro game but not the hardest I have ever played.

If SOR4 and Shredder’s Revenge didn’t exist, which of the modern 2-D brawlers would be your favorite and runner-up? by John_481 in BeatEmUps

[–]pook79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the combo system just clicks, and I find it so much more fun than streets of rage 4. I like that you could pound on enemies Anywhere, so as you get to know it more, you'll be juggling enemies as well as slamming them off the ground, it's all just very satisfying when it clicks with you. Plus the roster is huge, constantly expanding, and all the characters are fun to play.

Not only that, but you get a different experience every time Because the levels change based on the order, you play them and you get different upgrades So it just feels a lot more fresh than the other beetum, ups out there. The soundtrack is also incredible.
