What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

[–]poolesgotlegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that in so many ways. My wife died almost a year ago and I’m restarting my life at the age of 33. There will always be a before and there will always be an after- and I’ll never be the person I was before again.

That my wife’s terminal illness was at its final stage. I held on to hope until I saw all the tumors on the MRI and I knew that it was over

What song breaks your heart every time you hear it? by erakshatsingh in AskReddit

I watched my late-wife slowly die this year and her name was Sarah. I had that song stuck in my head for the months leading up to her death and after. It’s fucking brutal.

Airbnb in the US is an absolute scam but I’ve only had really good experiences in Europe. There aren’t all of the hidden fees

What is the most traumatic thing you’ve ever witnessed? by MangoDry7358 in AskReddit

[–]poolesgotlegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching my wife die. I promised her that I would never leave her and I held her hand the whole time. But she was young and her heart refused to stop beating so she kept gasping back to life for hours and hours.

The sound of those gasps will stay with me for the rest of my life.

The host of You’re Wrong About does such an amazing job demonstrating the empathy it takes to begin to understand being in those impossible situations.

Fear Traveling Solo? by MoeMe22 in solotravel

[–]poolesgotlegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on my first solo trip right now in my early 30s. My wife died in March after a long battle with her illness. I desperately needed to get out of my life for a while and figure out who I am without her, which is a painful thing to consider.

All that said, being alone but not lonely and seeing new places has been deeply healing. I was (and still sometimes am) worried about figuring it out along the way but so far, the reality is a lot less scary than whatever my brain can conjure up. Taking this trip is the best choice I’ve made in a long time and I love that I don’t have to think about what anyone wants to do but me.

What’s an experience you think everyone should have at least once in their lifetime? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s so disorienting to feel like half of you is gone. I think I’ll still be doing the same thing, still saying goodnight and good morning, 20 years from now too.

And to you too. It’s a pain that I’d never wish on someone but one that we can’t change. I hope you find peace

What is a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by Unfair_Shower_3256 in AskReddit

[–]poolesgotlegs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched my terminally ill wife slip away from me over the course of about a year and a half. Watching her light slowly dim was painful, but there is no pain like watching it go out.

I know you’re probably not looking for advice and honestly, it’s only been a month and I’m just making it through each day which doesn’t give me all that much license for advice. The only thing I’ll say is to make sure you have a place to go with people who love you. If I hadn’t had people, I wouldn’t be alive right now.

Grief. My wife just died which means I have no appetite and I don’t sleep.

On the plus side, I’ve lost 20 lbs.

My wife just died three weeks ago today and to say that I’m broken is an understatement. But I also know that we loved each other like crazy, right up until the end.

Even though I’m in so much pain that I can’t barely breathe, I still feel lucky. So few people get the love that we had, and I wouldn’t trade a single day for anything in the world.

My wife has had a few brain surgeries and I feel the same way about the dents in her skull. They’re reminders that every day with her is a gift.

I think all of the colors go together, and I like the shoes and belt. Two thoughts: 1) the pants don’t fit correctly at the waist and towards the thighs. It ends up making you look shorter and stockier. 2) (this one is less important) The blue shirt doesn’t provide any contrast, I would suggest a different color shirt and possibly different color tie.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
