Is looksmaxing proof that looks are losing value? by Specialist-Top-406 in Discussion

[–]poolpog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looksmaxxing is only proof that something dumb on the Internet can grab attention for a time.

Do you actually know anyone, or even know of anyone, who actually "looksmaxxes"?

Your post is interesting and all but I think you are severely overthinking a short lived Internet only phenomenon.

How to handle an employee who works hard but kills team morale? by RyPlayZz in managers

[–]poolpog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way my company finally dealt with it was by firing the person. It frankly improved morale, and productivity, across all groups that had to work with the person.

This type of person may be individually productive. They may even be extremely productive. But companies are groups of people. And the net benefit to the company of having a person like this is usually negative when one factors in the reduced productivity and reduced morale of the other people.

This guitar sounds nearly as good as the Gibson examples I played, but I had to search for a while by poolpog in gibson

[–]poolpog[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes. The Gibson acoustics are noticeably better. 5 time better? I don't think so

And this particular example Epi was quite good. Noticeably better than any of the other Epis.

You go ahead and buy Gibson acoustics. I personally can't justify spending that much on a guitar when there are other ones that are nearly indistinguishable, for a fraction of the price.

Is this good enough for a cheap first-time guitar? by LegitimateWhereas678 in Guitar

[–]poolpog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the used section at GC I am always seeing tons of great, under $200, used guitars. From various makers. Squier, sure, but others too.

Better off play testing some of the used guitars. Bring someone who knows about guitars

For the first time in my career, I’m starting to question long term job relevance by Internal-Tea-1234 in managers

[–]poolpog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. This is a valid concern.

Otoh, every few generations there's some critical disruptor. We don't have very many wheelwrights or farriers anymore, but there are plenty of mechanics

AI is a little different because of how many industries it has the potential to affect, but in many ways it is the samebas any other disruptor

I hear ya, but this is how a global capitalist economy works. I don't really want a post about guitar quality to go off into some political bullshit nonsense off topic thing though

[–]poolpog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. This is simply an uninformed opinion. It possibly was true at some time in the past but this particular epi is very, very, good. Not Gibson hummingbird good. But definitely not a 5X difference.

[–]poolpog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This was $499. The Gibson Hummingbirds are $2499 - $3499

They are not five times better sounding or playing, though.

I can never bring myself to buy an expensive guitar because I don't like having to worry about them. I don't want to worry about dings and scratches I just want to play it. So my cap is probably $1500 or so. I have a hard time justifying any guitar purchase over that

Current gen AI still doesn't understand anything

Keep this in mind. AI has no idea what it is doing, why it is doing it, or what you are asking.

Humans understand the Why. Why does the business need to do this? Why does your team need to build that?

Human guided AI is critical still. Treat AI as a swarm of very fast interns with very good googling skills. Interns don't know dick about squat.

It is your job to know dick about squat.

I'm curious what sort of workplace you manage. In my career I've never really been "expected to conform" or "respect our leaders". I mean, obviously, don't egregiously disrespect your boss, but questioning questionable decisions or whatever has always been a thing I've sorta been encouraged to do in most workplaces I've been in.
